The Vampire Diaries season 5 filming has begun, and in a new interview Candice Accola teases Caroline’s love life, the Silas storyline, and the transition to college.

In the season 4 finale of The Vampire Diaries, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) promised Caroline that he would allow Tyler (Michael Trevino) to finally return to Mystic Falls.

Of course, just because Klaus has gone to New Orleans doesn’t mean there won’t be more Klaus/Caroline. The writers and actors are hopeful for crossover appearances between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, which can further the fan favourite relationship.

So it seems like Caroline will continue to waver between Tyler and Klaus – but Candice Accola now reveals to Wetpaint that she’d actually rather see the character stay single for a while!

“I think it would be fun for her to go to college, and not think about Klaus,” she says. “Be single for a little bit and see what she wants, like every girl who goes off to college.”

And meet a cute new guy, perhaps? We recently reported that the show is allegedly looking for a new love interest for Caroline, whom she’ll meet at college and who will take issue with her being a vampire.

As to what else we can expect from The Vampire Diaries season 5, Accola reveals that, “The girls are going to college,” which seems to confirm that Matt won’t be going with them.

The season will also explore the Silas/Stefan doppelganger mystery – which is just one of the many revelations still to come for Caroline.

“She doesn’t know that Bonnie is dead, she doesn’t know that Stefan is in a coffin, and she definitely doesn’t know that Klaus has a baby on the way,” Accola says. “So Caroline has a whole bunch of stuff to learn in the next season!”

The Vampire Diaries season 5 will premiere Thursday, October 10, airing at 8/7c on The CW. The Originals will premiere the following Tuesday, October 15, also at 8/7c.
