Tonight is the season 4 finale of The Vampire Diaries! The veil is dropped, the dead are walking, and there’s a graduation ceremony to attend.

We can’t believe that The Vampire Diaries‘ fourth season is already over. Tonight’s episode “Graduation” marks this year’s finale, and we expect lots of shockers and cliffhangers to tie us over until season 5.

In an interview with E! Online, executive producer Julie Plec teases the big event, saying that it’ll be a mix of both graduation nostalgia and the fallout of Bonnie’s botched spell.

“We get the s–t hitting the fan behind the scenes, but we still get a great glimpse of that nostalgic milestone,” Plec says. “These characters, even though some may say they never go to school, I’d say they worked pretty hard to get to this point! It’s a real nice moment, and I always get a little misty-eyed when I see it. It makes me happy.”

In a separate interview with E!, Plec drops some more teasers, including that there’ll be a major Elena/Katherine showdown.

She also says that as far as the love triangle is concerned, Elena will be doing a little soul searching to decide if her feelings for Damon (and diminishing feelings for Stefan) were all because of the sire bond.

And speaking of love triangles, Plec promises that for Klaus and Caroline, a new door is opened in their relationship – and the fact that Klaus is going to be on a separate show this fall isn’t going to slow them down!

Plec also shares the graduating class members’ superlatives! Check them out below:
