Tonight’s episode was chock full of twists and turns we never saw coming! Somehow the gang managed to graduate in one piece, technically, but Mystic Falls isn’t the same without some supernatural event occurring during a school gathering.

We had the return of the thirty-six supernatural creatures sacrificed for the expression triangle, but luckily for the vampires they didn’t really put up a fight. They did, however stir some amazing emotions out of Rebekah and Matt! Meanwhile, Elena finally came clean about her feelings toward Damon as she reveals that it was not the sire bond and that she truly is in love with him! Of course, this sent Stefan down an emotional spiral which later became a literal spiral into the depths of the quarry, thanks to Silas, who previously revealed that Stefan is his doppleganger. What?!

And during all of this Katherine has been looking for a way to be the female Silas, immortal to all, but her mission was put to a grinding halt as Bonnie raised the veil, along with any hope she had of contacting Qetsiyah and doing the spell. So naturally Katherine lashes out at the one person she hates the most, Elena. Unluckily for her, Elena had the cure and in her dying moments managed to shove it down Katherine’s throat, condemning her to a human life once again.

We’re still reveling and trying to form opinions about the happenings of the episode, so make sure to leave us your thoughts in the comments!

In case you missed it, we do ALREADY have a synopsis for season 5 of The Vampire Diaries, so feel free to check that out below, then leave us any thoughts you have about our favorite Mystic Falls crew on their big graduation day!

Here is the (intentionally vague) description for season 5:

In the tumultuous fourth season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, the world of Mystic Falls was turned upside down when the beautiful and compassionate Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) came face-to-face with her worst nightmare – life as a vampire. While Elena struggled to control her new powers and the overwhelming thirst for blood, the astonishing news that a cure for vampirism may actually exist reached Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) Salvatore, the two vampire brothers who love her. Their search for the cure leads the brothers, along with Elena’s brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and her best friends Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline (Candice Accola), to a horrifying confrontation with the ancient and all-powerful immortal, Silas, who has been entombed with the cure for more than 2,000 years. But Elena isn’t the only vampire who longs to return to life as a human, and the question of who will take the cure is resolved in the heart-stopping season finale, along with moments of unexpected joy, unspeakable sorrow, and a confession of true love. The series heads into its fifth season with some characters headed off to college, a newly cured vampire trying to survive as a human, and a shocking Salvatore secret.
