Tristin Mays will return to play the youngest Salvatore on the last season of The Vampire Diaries.
This exciting news from TVLine arrived following everything we learned during The Vampire Diaries panel at San Diego Comic Con. Based on everything we’ve heard so far, season 8 should be a great one!
We last saw Sarah Salvatore in season 6. Just to refresh you, she is the daughter of Stefan and Damon’s uncle/nephew Zach and Gail. After Damon killed her mother before she was even born, Stefan made sure baby Sarah survived and lived a happy life.

He was successful until Enzo got Sarah involved in his strange season 6 vendetta against Stefan. He planned to use her against Stefan, but eventually had a change of heart. Even though Sarah is related to Stefan and Damon, she actually spent most of her time on The Vampire Diaries with Enzo and Matt.
It is not yet known when Mays will make her first appearance on The Vampire Diaries season 8, but she is also set to appear as a series regular on CBS’ MacGyver reboot, so she may not be around for long.
The most likely possibility is that she’ll be involved in Matt’s story somehow. Matt was forced to deceive her in season 6, but they did form somewhat of a friendship despite that. At the end of The Vampire Diaries season 7, Matt was seen leaving Mystic Falls to go on to his next adventure. However, he will still be a regular presence on the show, so his story line might involve Sarah Salvatore, wherever he may find her.
Enzo and Damon are quite preoccupied with their evil tendencies at the moment, so they probably wouldn’t care if Sarah showed up right away. It’s possible that she could come across them and have some effect on their mental state, but she wasn’t really close enough to either of them to do that realistically. If anything, Stefan may have to save Sarah from Enzo and Damon’s clutches.

Even though we don’t know what she’ll be up to in Mystic Falls, we’re excited to see at least one familiar face returning to the cast. Keep your eye on Hypable for news about more returning and new characters.
