Read what The Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec has to say about last night’s episode “After School Special” and get a taste of what’s coming up!

In last night’s episode, Rebekah made Elena and Stefan put all their cards on the table – Elena fully believes that she loves Damon and is no longer in love with Stefan (whether that’s the sire bond talking remains to be seen though), while Stefan just wants to forget about the pain she’s caused him.

Speaking to EW, Julie Plec explains that even though Elena has told Damon she loves him, “The doubt is still gonna be there” for them. “And it’s gonna continue to eat at Damon for the next few episodes,” she says. “Elena’s gonna continue to have to fight for it in how much she believes it.”

So what about Stefan? Well, maybe Rebekah can provide a distraction for him for a while. “We had this magnificent chemistry that we hit on when we first introduced her character,” Plec says, “and then each of their individual stories took them in a different direction, so it’s something that we’ve never been able to revisit. And yet, it did exist, even though Stefan was a much different person.”

Maybe now that they’re working together “there’ll be a little bit of a nostalgia attached to a time when they were both in a much different place,” she hints, even though “I think he pretty much loathes Rebekah and everything she stands for.”

Would you be interested in seeing a Rebekah/Stefan romance, however temporary? And do you think once Elena’s sire bond to Damon is eventually broken, that she’ll bounce back to Stefan? Or are her feelings for Damon strong enough that they’ll stay?
