Following the surprising end to the last episode of The Vampire Diaries, Paul Wesley has spoken about what he thinks Stefan will do next.

In an interview with Bullett Media, Paul Wesley reacts to the Stelena breakup which sent the fandom into a frenzy two weeks ago.

He says that while Elena being a vampire will have an effect on their future relationship, “Maybe there’s a way to salvage the relationship and go back to normal.”

However, Wesley adds that, “I hope they never go back to the way they were. People change, and I know they’re the romantic love story in the entire series, but I do believe potentially that they can find a different kind of romance that isn’t as naive as it was before.”

As we’ve seen in the sneak peek for Thursday’s episode “My Brother’s Keeper,” Stefan won’t be dealing with the breakup that well, and watching Elena grow closer to Damon will make Stefan, “lose his marbles a little bit.” Luckily, “I always welcome that, very wholeheartedly. I like when he’s not predictable.”

When asked about life after The Vampire Diaries, Wesley jokingly responds, “Really? No. Never! I’ll be 45 and still playing Stefan.” He goes on to discussing the work he is currently doing behind the camera, writing and producing a movie. “For me, I’m not just interested in acting, I’m interested in the process of either making film or television,” he says.

The Vampire Diaries returns in two days with the episode “My Brother’s Keeper.” While Caroline is busy planning the Miss Mystic Falls contest, Stefan continues searching for a cure for Elena, who in turn finds herself growing even closer to Damon.
