Bonnie’s dad will finally appear on The Vampire Diaries, and the casting directors didn’t look far – Supernatural‘s alpha vampire Rick Worthy has landed the role.

The Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec has previously confirmed that Bonnie’s father will be appearing on the show, and in episode 4×10 “After School Special” we will finally meet him.

TV Guide reports that the role of Rudy Hopkins will be played by Worthy, who will be reuniting with Paul Wesley – Worthy also starred on Wesley’s breakout series Fallen as the angel Camael.

Bonnie’s dad has been brought up a number of different times on The Vampire Diaries; when last we heard, he wasn’t happy with her spending a lot of time with her Grams because he didn’t approve of her magical powers. After Sheila died, there was a lot of confusion about whether Bonnie was living with her father or not, but it seems like this is not the case.

Spoilers Guide has gathered some great new info about Rudy’s role on the show, revealing that he is returning to Mystic Falls after an extended absence, worried about Bonnie’s life and future. He will be confronting Professor Shane (David Alpay), who at this point is serving as Bonnie’s friend and new (magical, presumably) mentor, and threatens to reveal Shane’s “past missteps.” It is also implied that Bonnie’s relationship with Shane might go beyond your usual teacher-student.

Worthy is a bit of a genre veteran at this point; aside from his Supernatural and Fallen roles, he has also appeared on Battlestar Galactica as Simon the Cylon and Heroes as Mike.

Are you happy that Bonnie’s father will finally be introduced to the show? The Vampire Diaries has a very bad track record when it comes to parental figures, so we do have to wonder how many episodes Rudy will stick around for before he dies, leaves town again, and/or is turned into a vampire.
