The Vampire Diaries has officially finished shooting and the cast took to social media to say goodbye to the show that they’ve given eight years of their lives to.

Vampires might live forever, but unfortunately The Vampire Diaries cannot. In just five short weeks, the final credits will roll on the series, and we’ll have to say goodbye to Mystic Falls, and the wonderful characters who inhabit it.

We still have five weeks to prepare, but the cast were forced to say their goodbyes even earlier! The Vampire Diaries cast have all shot their last scenes, their dressing rooms are cleared out, and this chapter of their lives is coming to a close. Some of the cast members shared touching tributes to reflect on what the show, their #TVDFamily, and the fans, have meant to them.

Nina Dobrev

Our leading lady, who so graciously returned to The Vampire Diaries to finish off Elena’s story, started things off by sharing a photo of the wrap gift that she had made for the cast and crew. These custom sets of The Vampire Diaries giving key necklaces are so adorable, we might just have to order some for ourselves.

Dearest TVD family, It feels like it was just yesterday that I was saying goodbye. And yet two years have passed and here we are again. This is my true final goodbye, as today I shot my last scene of the Vampire Diaries forever. Coming back for the series finale has been a whirlwind of emotion, nostalgia, love, tears of joy and bittersweet endings. It feels like the beautiful closure we all needed, myself included, and I couldn't have been happier to come home to be with my TVD set family and friends. I feel the fans family will also be happy with the show's conclusion when they tune in to watch the last episode air in a few short weeks. From the bottom of my heart, I send you my biggest thanks for the countless years of implicit dedication, passion, support, and undying love from all the fans that have stuck with us on this truly amazing and beautiful journey. As this last chapter ends, we welcome and look forward to going on to the next adventure and hope that you continue to follow us as our new journeys begin. I grew up on this show and am eternally grateful for all the opportunities it has given me, and so thankful for each and every person who worked on The Vampire Diaries over the last 8 years. We are all pieces of a big puzzle and without every truly amazing cast and crew member, this magical puzzle would not be complete. Thank you for all your hard work, friendship and love. You have touched my heart in ways you will never know. Sending looch smooches, Love, Katherine, Amara, Tatia, and of course, Elena Gilbert. #TVDforever #FangsForTheMemories ❤ Ps. I had these custom engraved TVD #Forever keys made as crew gifts for my beloved TVD a family. @thegivingkeys is an amazing company that sells products to provide jobs. Her gift was very sweet, but in true Nina Dobrev fashion, she couldn’t leave the set without getting in one last prank. The victim? Matthew Davis, who we all know as Alaric.

She also shared pictures with each of her costars, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder.

Paul Wesley

Paul shared one last picture of our favorite brothers, thanking the fans for the last eight years.

Ian Somerhalder

Our Damon Salvatore started his goodbyes a few weeks early, beginning with the Salvatore crypt.

He also shared a picture with his costar, Nina Dobrev, and his wife, Nikki Reed. He paired it with a powerful message (which echoed his wife’s prior comments) about the dangers of getting caught up in false information, and thwarted any rumors of bad blood between the three of them!

Ian also shared a video on his official Facebook page, right before shooting the last scene of The Vampire Diaries ever! Check it out.

Kat Graham

Nina Dobrev wasn’t the only cast member who planned an awesome wrap gift for her cast mates! Kat used her partnership with Foster Grant sunglasses to provide these cool shades for the people who’ve worked tirelessly on The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons.

Following her final scene as Bonnie Bennett, she also thanked the fans and shared an awesome fan video, which was made for her character.

Candice King

Candice shared a few instagrams to say goodbye to The Vampire Diaries. She even included her family in the fun/tears.

Zach Roerig

Zach Roerig, our beautiful Matty Blue Eyes, thanked The Vampire Diaries showrunner, Julie Plec, for his character’s season 8 storyline.

And Julie sent the love right back!

Matt Davis

Matt Davis posted some videos to thank the fans, before his last scene as Alaric Saltzman.

Getting ready for my last shot… Love you guys!!!

The love didn’t stop when he was finished shooting, either.

Michael Malarkey

Our Enzo took us behind the scenes as he cleaned out his dressing room on The Vampire Diaries set.

Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson

As the creators of The Vampire Diaries, Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have been in this world longer than anyone. Naturally, they took the time to say goodbye, as well.
