Even though The Vampire Diaries is ending in March, it looks like we can postpone our goodbyes for at least one character.

Ever since the first crossover between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, fans of the two vampire series have been screaming for more. Unfortunately, now that the timelines of the shows are offset, it doesn’t look likely that we’ll get another before The Vampire Diaries wraps up.

On the bright side, TVLine has confirmed that at least one character will make his way to New Orleans in season 4 of The Originals, which will premiere on Friday, March 17, one week after the series finale of The Vampire Diaries.

Alaric Saltzman, the vampire hunting, siphon-fathering, drinking buddy extraordinaire, will appear in The Vampire Diaries spinoff to “deliver an artifact to Elijah.”

Now that Alaric is running the Armory, it makes perfect sense that he’d be an important figure for all vampires and other mythological creatures, even beyond Mystic Falls. The Mikaelsons are always getting themselves into trouble in New Orleans, so of course they’re going to need his help, down the line.

On top of the excitement that we’ll get to see one of our favorite characters continue on (even if it’s only for one more week), this story has interesting implications.

First of all, since The Originals is a couple years ahead of The Vampire Diaries, it all but confirms that Alaric will still be standing at the end of the series. Great news, since he has two incredibly cute daughters to look after.

Also, Alaric is very closely connected to Caroline Forbes, given that she’s the mother of the aforementioned daughters. If Klaroline shippers don’t get a chance to see their favorite couple off before The Vampire Diaries ends, this could be a final opportunity to showcase a hugely popular ship, even if it’s just to see Klaus and Caroline say goodbye!

Are you excited to see Alaric go from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ to ‘The Originals’?
