Mark your calendars, Nicolas Cage fans— Lionsgate’s super meta The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent finally has a release date.

Update (2/3/2020): Over the course of his illustrious career, Nicolas Cage has played no shortage of unforgettable characters. Coming up next, however, Cage will find himself playing someone he’s all too familiar with: himself.

Now, we’re learning that Lionsgate has officially set a March 2021 release date for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Cage officially boarded the project, directed by Tom Gormican and written by Gormican and Kevin Turen, back in November 2019.

When the project was first announced, it was being reported that the movie would find Cage working on behalf of the CIA to take down a drug cartel leader.

Now, it seems as though we’re getting a bit more information with regards to what else the movie has in store for viewers.

Per Deadline, “the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday party of a super fan” in an effort to save himself from a sizable amount of personal debt he’s acquired.

In order to save himself after things turn sour, Cage will then find himself channeling some of the most iconic movie roles of his career in order to save himself, and those he holds dear.

It definitely sounds as though Nicolas Cage fans are in for one helluva ride when it comes to the actor’s latest project!

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is slated to be released in theaters on March 19 2021.

Original Story (11/15/19):

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Nicolas Cage will star as himself in the upcoming Lionsgate film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.

Described as a meta drama, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will follow Cage as he grapples with a strained relationship with his teenage daughter in his personal life, all while trying to score a huge role in director Quentin Tarantino’s next big movie.

As THR explains in their breakdown of the general premise, the film would also find Cage “occasionally talking to a 1990s version of himself who rides him for making too many crappy movies and for not being a star anymore.”

There’s also the matter of Cage’s on-screen persona dealing with a huge amount of personal debt — something that’ll lead him to finding himself caught between the CIA and the leader of a Mexican cartel.

Soon, Cage will find himself going undercover on behalf of the CIA to seek out information on the dangerous man responsible for kidnapping the daughter of a high profile Mexican politician.

Unfortunately, the mission doesn’t only prove dangerous for Cage himself — it also proves dangerous for his family, and soon his ex-wife and his teenage daughter find themselves caught in the crossfires of the whole ordeal.

Behind the scenes, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will boast a script written by Tom Gormican (That Awkward Moment) and Kevin Etten (Workaholics). In addition to co-writing the script, Gormicen will serve as director on the project.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent to hit the big screen.
