On an interview with the U.K. chat program Daybreak, Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman talk about Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary and this Saturday’s episode, The Bells of St. John.

The video has some gems such as the modern version of Clara seeing the interior of the TARDIS for the first time. Matt Smith describes the 50th anniversary as a balance of looking backwards and forward. Jenna-Louise Coleman confirms that the Doctor’s biggest secret will be revealed by the end of the current series, and that Clara has nicknamed the TARDIS the snog box.

Clara, as we have learned in her past two experiences, is quite the flirt. Both Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman have described their characters’ relationship as a Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey kind of thing. For those not familiar with Hepburn and Tracey, they notably bickered and bantered in their movie appearances together in a rapid, non-stop comedic way. The couple had “chemistry” both on-screen and off, though no one is suggesting anything is going on between Coleman and Smith off-screen, clearly they have on-screen chemistry.

In classic Doctor Who there wasn’t really anything that could be considered romantic attraction. Even when Peter Davison played the role (at the time he was considered a ‘heartthrob’) and surrounded by three, different beautiful women, it was all perfectly platonic. In the reboot era, we have been down the road of the Doctor falling in love with Rose Tyler, and with River Song. The question is, do fans want to see that happen again?
