The Taking Facebook page revealed that the trailer for their “cinematic experience of light and sound” will come online this Sunday, January 6 at 4:30.

In addition to the release date, the official poster was unveiled on the movie’s website, and it seems to hint at the film’s gloriously violent tone as well as how the human element will play into the story itself. Fans of experimental film have reason to rejoice, because the synopsis of the film (featured below the poster) suggests a very non-linear mode of storytelling, one that was only been briefly touched on in films of the past.

Described by the creators as “the Tree of Life of horror”, The Taking promises a film experience that leave’s the standard conventions of horror behind in favor of something exciting and new. The Taking describes itself as “a film with balls and intellectual muscle,” and the grisly images available on their website suggest a more graphic non-linear tale of woe.

The experience begins with Carl who seeks to murder his best friend and adulterous fiancé. Unexpectedly, he awakens in a wooded wasteland. He has no idea as to where he is or how he got there. A sinister family now holds him captive along with another victim named Jade. They’re subjected to arcane rituals and are left tied to a tree for several days.

When Carl looks back on their grisly experience in the forest, he comes to the realization that they’re not just in the woods; rather, they are in a place where people go to fight the vices living inside of them. The losing of this fight is something far worse than death; it’s the utter damnation of one’s very soul.

Not much about the film has been released, though if the hype is to be believed, the trailer should clue us in as to what we can expect from The Taking in the future.
