The Strokes have released their newest single, “One Way Trigger.”

Available both on their soundcloud and as a free download from their website, the single is a much anticipated follow-up to their 2011 album, Angles.

“One Way Trigger” has as much synth-infused rock and frantic beats that is classic to the band’s signature sound. However, the newly released music also features something that Strokes fans may not be accustomed to: a surprisingly amazing falsetto by front man, Julian Casablancas.

Casablancas is known for his deeper, almost sultry-like voice–example, “Taken for a Fool” (Angles, 2011) or “Juicebox” (First Impressions of Earth, 2005).

In their latest single, though new to our ears, Casablancas’ falsetto helps push the track in a new direction for the band. Pair his falsetto to rich, smooth tone with heavy guitar riffs backed by synth/electro beats and “One Way Trigger” will have you hooked.

Although the Strokes have yet to release any information on their new album–even though bassist Nikolai Fraiture told RollingStone in June 2011 that the band was in the process of creating something new–fans will enjoy the teaser of what’s to come.

Even though it has been three years since Angles was released, the June interview with RollingStone was assuring as the band made it clear that they were not intending to let too much time go by in between Angles and releasing a new album.

“We’re trying not to lose momentum by taking time off and then having to reboot the whole system,” Fraiture said. “Hopefully, we keep that up.”

So far, the Strokes have kept to their word.
