The Spectacular Now wowed audiences at Sundance and is on it’s way around the Summer festival circuit. Today we got our first look at the full length trailer.

The film, based on the 2008 novel by Tim Tharp, will go into limited release later this summer. Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller are already garnering buzz as the leads.

Teller plays Sutter Keely, a hard partying, self absorbed but charming high school senior who finds himself dumped by his beautiful girlfriend and passed out on the front lawn of a stranger’s house. That stranger turns out to be Aimee (Woodley), the “nice girl” classmate he never took the time to notice.

A typical set-up reveals itself as what looks to be a heartfelt and poignant coming of age story.

A new poster for the film was also released along with the trailer.

The movie is directed by indie up-and-comer James Ponsoldt and written by 500 Days of Summer scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Webber.

Neustadter and Webber have already proven they know how to tug at our heartstrings in the realest way, so their involvement alone has us intrigued.

Woodley and Teller received the Special Jury Award for acting at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Woodley, who is best known for her role on ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager is building quite a film resume for herself, starring alongside George Clooney in 2011’s The Descendants, and currently filming The Amazing Spiderman 2. Woodley plays Mary Jane Watson in the latter film.

A supporting cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kyle Chandler, Allison Brie, and Mary Elisabeth Winstead.

The Spectacular Now is continuing to gain momentum as more audiences are able to see it. We suspect it will have 80s babies feeling nostalgic and reminiscing about the days when John Hughes ruled the box office.

The Spectacular Now will be in limited release starting Aug 2.
