Bad news, The Society and I Am Not Ok With This fans— unfortunately, Netflix has opted to cancel both series after just one season.

According to Deadline, Netflix has pulled the plug on both The Society and on I Am Not Ok With This after just one season.

News that the online streaming giant has chosen to cancel The Society will likely come as a huge shock to fans of the YA sci-fi drama— especially given that Netflix had already committed to making a second season of the series.

Though The Society was in fact renewed for a season 2 last summer and set to premiere later on this year, a source close to the project tells Deadline that the series was cancelled due to coronavirus complications.

Like many series in production, The Society found its filming schedule grinding to a halt due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Per the unnamed source, Netflix opted instead to pull the plug on the show due to unexpected budget increases as well as uncertainty surrounding filming start dates.

Though I Am Not Okay With This was never officially renewed for a season 2, Netflix hinted in a statement that the cancellation also had to do with COVID complications.

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This,” said Netflix in a statement. ““We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.”
