The SoapGirls are planning on taking over American radio stations all across the country, and Hypable spoke with the duo to find out what they have planned for the future.

Last week, we told you about The SoapGirls, a pop duo that has risen to the top of the South African charts and is planning to do the same in the United States. In our previous article, you can listen to two of their newest songs, “Lie to Me” and “Looking for Love.”

Below, you can find an interview we did with Camille and Noemie. They talk about what it’s like to be in a group with your sister, how they plan on taking over the American charts, and which three words would best describe their sound.

1. What made you decide to transition from doing street performances to taking a more professional route by recording and releasing an album?

It was never a conscious decision. We were 12/13 years old when we were street performing and a person asked us to come and record in his studios. It was a very crazy experience, but it was the beginning of our love affair with recording music. We developed our sound a few albums later, and we finally released one under a major label, and from there our official music journey began!!

2. What’s the biggest thing that scares you about breaking into the American scene?

We have been actively dreaming about this for literally our whole lives and we are more excited than fearful. We never stop to think of fear. We are driven by love and optimism.

3. What have you learned about your popularity in South Africa that you think will be helpful when you make your debut in the U.S.?

To always remain humble, appreciative, never to forget the journey, work hard and remain true to yourself and your fans. We love our fans because without them we’re nothing!!

4. If you could describe your sound in only three words, which words would you pick?

Bold, catchy and original.

5. What’s the best thing about being in a duo with your sister?

We are naturally competitive, which means that we drive each other to give more than 100%. When the chips are down, we’re able to bring out the best in each other!!

6. Are there any stereotypes you’re hoping to break about you or your music with your next album?

Definitely. As much as we are all about escapism and fun, our music shares both the joys and hurt of our lives. It’s very personal and very real. We actually have a song called “Hard To Dance” on our album that we wrote about circumstances and trying to get through life. We know that song will resonate universally with people (it will be our third single), and we pray that people will look past our physical [attributes] and connect with us on a deeper level through our lyrics.

7. What hobbies do you have besides singing and performing?

We are madly in love with learning different languages, acting, yoga and aerobics, songwriting, playing guitar, harmonica, reading, playing pranks, and baking.

8. If you could pick one performer to do a show or tour with, who would you pick?

Arrrgghh, this is so difficult. It would have to be Gwen Stefani!!

9. If you didn’t choose music as a career path, what do you think you’d be doing now?

We’d have a sitcom/reality show!!

10. Finally, what would you say makes you stand out from the crowd of musicians trying to break out into the American scene?

We have had a very unusual upbringing, and live our lives passionately from our own perspective, which transcends into our performances, music and personalities. There is nothing contrived about The SoapGirls!!
