Is The Sims 4 about to be revealed? A domain name registration and a planned conference call appear to be pointing to an imminent announcement.

UPDATE: EA has now confirmed that The Sims 4 is in development and will debut in 2014. More information will be released later today, and we’ll share it with you when that information is made available. The official logo is above.

UPDATE 2: While details are still skim, we now know that The Sims 4 will be an offline, single player experience. This will come as good news to those who didn’t enjoy the new SimCity which requires a constant Internet connection. The following teaser image was released:

EA has reactivated the domain TheSims4.com, which currently leads to The Sims 3 website. A NeoGAF forum post also points to some posts by fansites of The Sims which promise a huge Sims-related announcement on Monday. It is expected that the conference call will formally announce The Sims 4.

Digital Spy reports that The Sims 4 may require a constant Internet connection to play, in a similar fashion to this year’s SimCity reboot. The “always-on” approach didn’t work so well for SimCity, so perhaps EA will reconsider burdening another of its most popular franchises with it.

The Sims 3 was released back in mid 2009 (after a four month delay) and has since had nine expansion packs released with another two due for release later this year. In addition, eight stuff packs have been released which add additional items to the base game.

Whilst not as commercially successful as its predecessors, over 10 million copies of The Sims 3 have been sold.

What do you want to see in The Sims 4? We’ll let you know what happens in tomorrow’s announcement from EA, whatever it may be.
