The Secret Journal of Ichabod Crane is a brand new book in partnership with Fox’s Sleepy Hollow and it reveals to us what Ichabod was really thinking in the show’s first season.

In Sleepy Hollow, a supernatural twist on Washington Irving’s classic short story, Ichabod Crane has been pulled two-and-a-half centuries through time to find that he and detective Abbie Mills are humanity’s last hope in the war against evil. Passionate, intelligent, and wryly funny, Crane has always used journals to collect thoughts and documents that may prove useful later, and The Secret Journal of Ichabod Crane offers an unprecedented look at the battle also raging inside his fascinating mind.

On the pages within, Crane shares new memories of the American Revolution; more amusing reflections on modern-day phenomena, from the Internet to Election Day; and private thoughts about Abbie, Katrina, and others. He also includes hidden case files; secret Freemason puzzles; selections from George Washington’s mysterious Bible; and photos, letters, and drawings he has collected along the way. Filled with detail about past battles and vanquished monsters, as well as clues about those he and Abbie have yet to face, this journal is not just the ultimate repository for fans, but the key to Sleepy Hollow’s future — and the world’s.

‘The Secret Journal of Ichabod Crane’ book review

The Secret Journal of Ichabod Crane is your perfect tie-in for Sleepy Hollow. The contents of the journal take place during the happenings of season one, and throughout the entire book we get references to what’s actually happening in the show, and Ichabod’s reaction to all of them. You might want to rewatch all of season 1 to make sure you remember what Ichabod’s talking about, just to be sure.

One of the best parts of The Secret Journal of Ichabod Crane is finding out what Ichabod was up to after or before his appearances on TV. For instance, last season when we saw Ichabod talking with Yolanda from North Star about Katrina, we learned about how that conversation started and what he was helping Yolanda out with. We also get several amazing instances where Ichabod tells us his true feelings about modern things like the cities of New York as well as the hilarious bit about skinny jeans.

And although our memories faltered a bit when it came to specific instances in The Secret Journal of Ichabod Crane, we managed to align all of Ichabod’s memories and stories perfectly with season 1. The only issue with this book is that you’re going to have to be on top of your Sleepy Hollow A-game because if you don’t remember what happened, you’ll be at a loss.

We definitely recommend you catching up with Sleepy Hollow and reading this amazing collection of thoughts from the ever-so-handsome Ichabod Crane before the show returns this fall on Monday, September 22 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

The Secret Journal of Ichabod Crane hits shelves on September 16. Add it to your Goodreads list, or purchase it from Amazon.
