What could be better than putting real fans into a fantasy world and let them play? Why, making them complete tasks and compete to become the one true hero of course! Check out the premiere recap of The Quest.

The adventure begins…

All 12 ‘paladins’ (contestants) receive a really cool invitation from the Fates to journey to Everrealm and take part in an adventure to save this world. *Cue montage of all 12 contestants walking through a cavern to eventually be brought into Everrealm.*

The paladins then met the Fates and were told about their summons to save Everrealm. They are told that only a weapon called the Sunspear can turn back the darkness threatening Everrealm and that there are 12 parts to the weapon.

The paladins just discovered the sunspear lying in the forest when Crio finds them. He tells them that there are enemy scouts out looking for them, and that they must follow him.

All 12 paladins and Crio make their way to castle Sanctum. Just as they see the castle in the distance, three men on horse back charge out of the forest and begin to give them chase.

They arrive at Castle Sanctum

As they walk the streets, not everyone is happy to see the paladins. A group of knights corner the players in a gated area before Crio is dragged away from them.

The players do not all agree on their next course of action. Some think they should try to escape their little prison, while others think that trying to escape just proves to the people at Castle Sanctum that they aren’t trustworthy.

They decide to wait to see if Crio returns, and in the meantime, they begin to get acquainted with each other a bit.

They all relay stories of their rough childhoods, and start to bond. It’s clear that most of these people have similar histories, including rough times as children, and that fantasy stories helped them to trudge through.

Crio returns suddenly and brings with him a man in elaborate robes. He tells the paladins of the last time the Fates gathered a group of paladins, and seems to not believe that these people are the next group. When they present him with the 12 pieces of the Sunspear, he instantly becomes more interested before leaving them again with Crio.

Crio then takes the paladins to their rooms in the castle. In a true geek’s dream come true, the 12 players are brought to the common room. They pair off for rooming purposes, and Patrick and Bonnie are kind of forced by the process of elimination to room together.

They all go to bed, but not before trying to figure out what they should do to keep their pieces of the Sunspear safe while they sleep.

Training begins

They are awoken and told to dress and be down in the courtyard in pretty short order. The leather training gear looks straight out of a Game of Thrones-esque world, and it makes this fangirl wish she was a part of The Quest.

They make their way to the training field, where a series of obstacles await them. Their first challenge is to man the ‘scorpions’ (which are high-powered crossbows) in three-man teams.

After dividing up into teams, each member takes on a specific job, there’s the runner, the shooter, and the guide. The runner fetches arrows in pairs as the shooter loads the scorpion and launches the arrow. The guide takes their place at the top of a wooden structure to help guide the scorpion shooter to hit a bunch of straw dummies out of sight.

After a period of time, the trainer stops the activity and counts the arrows that hit targets to determine which team had the least number, and will have to prove themselves in another way.

And the losers are…

The red team hit 6 targets, Yellow hit 10, White hit 13, and Blue hit 4 targets. After berating the last place squad a bit, the winners, the White team, must choose one of them to receive the mark of leadership from the king. Bonnie is chosen, and she gets a pin attached to her training gown, and everyone goes back to the castle.

The Blue team will have to face the consequences of their loss, so one of them, either Katie, Patrick, or Christian, will be leaving Everrealm.

Crio fetches the paladins and brings them out to the forest to show them a ruined throne room called the Hall of the Fates, where the Fates are waiting for them. The Fates will challenge the losers from training, and whoever performs best will be saved from banishment. The last 2 paladins will battle for the last remaining spot every week, with the remaining paladin being banished.

The first to survive the Hall of Fates

The three contestants must shoot arrows at colored targets corresponding to each of them. The target with the least number of arrows will continue on, and the other two will battle against banishment.

After a time, the arrows were counted, and Christian was found to have the least, and will continue on. Patrick and Katie must now face banishment.

The rest of the paladins gather around a stone table outside the Hall of Fates to decide how they will vote. They begin discussing each of Patrick and Katie’s strengths and weaknesses and soon, Crio returns to bring them to the Hall of Fates to vote.

They are instructed to stand behind the paladin that they believe should continue on…

And the first to be banished is…

A few at a time, the remaining paladins choose to keep Patrick in Everrealm. Katie remains behind in the Hall of Fates and will not return to the castle. She places her piece of the Sunspear into the altar and then departs the Hall and vanishes into smoke.
