The first material by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin set in the universe of the books since 2011’s A Dance of Dragons is set for release today in the United States.

The novella is part of the Dangerous Women anthology also containing short stories and novellas by authors such as Jim Butcher and Lev Grossman.

Martin’s contribution to the anthology is a 35,000 word novella, titled “The Princess and the Queen,” detailing the Targaryen civil war known as Dance of the Dragons set some 170 years before the events A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones. It is worth noting that this novella is separate and distinct from Martin’s other ongoing series of novellas set in the World of Ice and Fire, “The Tales of Dunk and Egg”.

The Publisher of Dangerous Women (Randomhouse) has made available a preview of the audio book portion of “The Princess and the Queen” read by none other than Jorah Mormont himself, Game of Throne’s Iain Glen.
