The first trailer for Derek Cianfrance’s thriller The Place Beyond the Pines, starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, has arrived online.

Although it already played the Fall festival circuit, this is the first real glimpse we’ve had at the film. With Gosling teaming up with his Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance, The Place Beyond the Pines is likely anything but a typical crime thriller. In fact, the trailer alone already reminds us of another Ryan Gosling film: Drive.

While something along the lines of Drive would likely be divisive, we’re definitely interested. Decide for yourself and take a look at the trailer below, via Yahoo!:

The Place Beyond the Pines played at a few film festivals this Fall, including TIFF, where we reviewed the film, writing, “The end result may not always be perfect but The Place Beyond the Pines tackles issues of morality and guilt in ways most films don’t even attempt anymore.” Also adding, “It’s a different experience with moments of brilliance but at times it’s also frustrating and wildly uneven.” Sounds intriguing enough to us!

Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son. But when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper), their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational feud. The Place Beyond the Pines is a rich dramatic thriller, tracing the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villains.

The film also stars Ray Liotta, Dane DeHaan, Rose Byrne and Ben Mendolsohn, with a script by Cianfrance, Ben Coccio and Darius Marder. With such talent involved, that seems enough on its own to warrant a $10 ticket, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Focus Features has set a March 29, 2013 release date.
