A few new interviews with The Originals stars Joseph Morgan and Claire Holt, and showrunner Julie Plec, reveal how season 1 will catch up to The Vampire Diaries.

The Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals premieres in October, and filming for season 1 is in full swing.

One of the series’ stars, Claire Holt, speaks to TV Addict about how her character Rebekah will exit The Vampire Diaries and join her brothers Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) in New Orleans.

Specifically she reveals that the romance between Rebekah and Matt, “Is sadly coming to an end” after their summer road trip. “I can’t imagine they’re gonna do long distance well.”

As for a potential new love interest in New Orleans, “it’s gonna have to be someone she’s not related to!” Holt says. So… Marcel, perhaps?

“I don’t know, I’ll let you put two and two together,” she teases, which seems a pretty solid hint that she’ll be cozying up to Klaus’ arch-nemesis.

Moving on to discuss Hayley, who is pregnant with Klaus’ baby, Holt says, “I think Rebekah is going to be really protective of Hayley,” and adds that she’ll maybe try to make Hayley a part of the team.

As for the baby, “I think she’s really gonna love that child, and treat it like it were her own.”

Finally, Holt talks about the nature of The Originals, calling it more of a family drama than a romance.

Give Me My Remote has spoken to Joseph Morgan about how the new series will allow him to explore Klaus in more depth than he was able to do on The Vampire Diaries:

And finally, showrunner Julie Plec speaks to Give Me My Remote about the new pilot, which we’ll see when the show premieres in October.

“We get to see scenes that existed in the [backdoor] pilot, but more from Elijah’s point of view,” Plec says.

“To watch Elijah jump on board and declare how simple it will be, and then to have Klaus reject the baby will be [Elijah’s] powerful moment, as opposed to the pilot where it was Klaus’ powerful moment … and by the last act, we’re moving past that night, and everything we see is new, and it tees up the series.”

The Vampire Diaries season 5 will premiere on the same night as The Originals season 1, and Plec admits that there will be some confusion surrounding the timeline, as TVD jumps forward a few months where as The Originals pilot takes place roughly in the middle of season 4.

But by the second episode, The Originals will do a time-jump as well, so that, “Rebekah shows up [in New Orleans] and she’s been to Europe and she’s done that whole thing. So then we can do things like aim for crossover opportunities.”

The Vampire Diaries season 5 premieres Thursday, October 3 at 8/7c on The CW, and is followed by The Originals pilot at 9/8c.

After that, The Originals will air Tuesdays at 8/7c.
