The Originals season 4 kicks off tonight on the CW and we couldn’t be more excited to get back to the Quarter, to the Mikaelsons, and to the drama that always follows them.

With The Vampire Diaries closing up shop last week, you may be a little emotional and looking for some relief. Look no further! The Originals is everything you could want by ways of grief counseling. It’s got all the vampires and witches and werewolves you could ask for, but it’s just different enough from the Mystic Falls story to be the balm that soothes your scrapes and bruises from the finale.

Here are just a few of the reasons we are beyond excited to get back to all things Originals:

Marcel is finally the Mikaelsons’ equal and this could mean great things

So much of Marcel’s angst comes from feeling inferior to the Mikaelsons in just about every way. Now that he has all the longevity and power of an Original vampire, with the bonus of being the only person alive that can take down a Mikaelson with a single bite, that inferiority can finally fall away. I can’t wait to see how Marcel relates to the Mikaelsons once they awake from their five-year slumber.

Time to actually meet Hope Mikaelson

For the last two seasons, we’ve had this child around that has affected each of our favorite characters to some degree, but season 4 and this five-year time jump have given us the gift of actually getting to meet this young person. I am eager to find out how Hope has grown in her time alone with Hayley and how Klaus, Elijah, and all the Mikaelsons will deal with having a child around with a personality all her own.

No more magic?!

One of the most heartbreaking moments of last season was watching Davina set off a magic bomb in the afterlife, severing the ancestors’ ties to New Orleans in addition to ending all hope of her returning to Kol’s side. We will surely be seeing the aftermath of that act, and finding out what an ancestor-free New Orleans means for magic and the witch community that has called the Quarter home for centuries.

Seeing the affect these 5 years have had on Hayley

While Freya, Rebekah, Elijah, and Kol have been together all this time, Klaus and Hayley have been pretty much on their own. Klaus is suffering an extended torment at the hands of Marcel and Papa Tunde’s dagger, but Hayley has been searching for answers to bring back all her loved ones. We know how strongly she feels about family, and life without them definitely won’t have been easy. Raising a child without a constant threat of death must have been a change, but we’d bet that she is beyond ready to get her family back.

New character brings new challenges

In addition to all our favorites and finally getting to know Hope, we know there are going to be a few new faces in the Quarter this season. Christina Moses will be playing a rebellious, bisexual werewolf that will have some involvement with the Mikaelson family. Could she be a final piece in the solution to the puzzle of how to bring them back to the land of the conscious?

Let’s face it, we just love these goofballs

This cast is phenomenal, and the wait to get back to New Orleans has been the longest we’ve had to endure yet. In addition to getting back to each of these characters, a new season of The Originals brings all the live tweeting, interviews, and behind the scenes pictures that keep us bonded to the actors and professionals we love so much.

The Originals season 4 premieres tonight on the CW at 8 p.m.

How excited are you for ‘The Originals’ season 4 to finally premiere?
