The Originals season 3, episode 11 didn’t pause for a moment. We may have expected this episode to be all about everyone’s transitions, but it turned out to be so much more than that.

We all expected this episode to be about Klaus trying to help Cami through her transition. Instead, we watched the season-long prophecy plot get pushed further forward in one episode than it has all season. Plus, we saw Davina in action. We definitely missed our favorite witch.

Guess who’s back?

First of all, let’s address the returns to the show that we didn’t see last week. Davina, Josh, and Kol all showed up this week, and we couldn’t be happier to see them. Josh has been largely MIA since Aiden’s death, which is totally understandable, but we are glad to see him back to his old self again.

Davina is still eager to bring Kol back, which is no surprise to anyone. She’s so desperate, in fact, that she wraps Josh up in a little plot to visit him in the purgatory-like world he’s currently trapped in. She and Kol have a few moments together to discuss the offer she received from Aya about joining the Strix coven, the Sisters. We were ecstatic to see Nathaniel Buzolic back as the original Original, but before long they have to part ways. Davina ends up having to be saved by this episode’s MVP, Ariane, but we’ll get back to her later.

The episode ends with Davina seriously considering joining the Strix coven to get the power to revive Kol. Josh isn’t necessarily happy about it, so he goes to Marcel, a Strix member, and tells him about her plans.

This episode’s MVP goes to…

Ariane. Hands down. She may have only been with us for one episode, but everything from her look to her selflessness has her cemented in The Originals‘ history books.

She learned all about the Mikaelsons and the pain they’ve been privy to in a few short seconds. She then stepped in and saved Davina from the ancestors. Sure, she may have been basically doing Aya’s bidding, but her actions stand out for us. Lastly, she saw Elijah’s purpose for killing her and accepted her fate without complaint.

Ariane, and the actress who played her, Haley Ramm, was a fantastic part of the show, and if there’s any way for her to return in the future we would be happy to welcome her back into the fold.

Let’s get this prophecy plot a-movin’

Now that the Seratura is gone, it’s important we find out what the next threat will be. Aya brings a threat to Elijah’s attention via Ariane’s look into Elijah’s psyche. Ariane sees a pale horse, a lone figure, and the Originals burning because of it. So, naturally, the next step is to find and extinguish this threat.

Elijah works to figure out what this pale horse is, and after a day of wracking his brain, he’s no closer to finding it. He goes to Klaus to see if he can help, and two minutes into a conversation with Hayley, Klaus remembers a carving he made to comfort Rebekah when they were kids. He knows it’s made of White Oak, and therefore is a threat to all the Mikaelsons.

They tear apart the compound looking for the carving that has been Hope’s for some time, and then Klaus has a revelation about where it may be. Cami was his therapist. Cami knows more about Klaus than pretty much anyone. Cami is now a vampire who could have easily eavesdropped on their earlier conversation, and Klaus has some things that Cami is desperate to get her hands on. He and Cami have a chat on the phone and she makes it clear that she wants her witch relics back before she’ll let any of the Mikaelsons get their hands on this weapon.

The Strix definitely need to be handled

This episode is the first we are learning of the Strix coven. Seeing that the powerful order of vampires all sired by Elijah or his line has a coven of witches all their own? Terrifying. Although Ariane is no longer a threat, thanks to Elijah’s need to tie up loose ends, they still have a host of powerful witches at their disposal. The Mikaelsons may have Freya, but the Strix have the Sisters.
