Here’s what happened on ‘The Originals’ season 3, episode 10

We may have come into this episode thinking that Cami’s death was going to play the biggest role, but we were dead wrong. (get it? dead wrong?) There were no less than 3 deaths or pseudo-deaths in this episode that will all play a major role in the rest of the season.

Cami

Cami awoke moments into the episode, and we quickly learned that Aurora was to blame for her death. Nobody snuck in and killed Cami, though, which we had always thought seemed fishy. The Mikaelson compound is chock full of vampires with super-hearing abilities, so anyone being able to sneak around there seemed improbable. Cami had been compelled to drink Aurora’s blood and slit her own throat the minute she found herself in love with Klaus. Talk about twisted, huh?

Cami then had a choice to make. Does she live as a vampire or die a human? She is resistant to the idea of an immortal life only because she knows of her own darkness and is afraid that it will dominate her personality after she makes the transition. While Cami insists that she intends to die, Klaus tries to force her hand. Thank goodness Freya has other plans. Cami volunteers to be used in a clever ploy to get Tristan back for his treachery (more on that later), and then walks away from Klaus to wrap up her human life.

She goes to her brother’s grave, and invites Vincent to join her. She stands there with him, debating the honor of her death versus the possible value of her vampire life. We were almost convinced of her death there for a second, but ultimately, we knew better. Cami talked herself into drinking Vincent’s blood and (ta da!) there’s a new vampire in New Orleans.

Jackson

Tristan thought he could pull one over on the Mikaelsons. What. An. Idiot. He and his Strix minions stole into the bayou and used some wolfsbane tranquilizer darts to kidnap Hayley and Jackson. He tortured them with a wolfsbane drip straight into their veins, keeping them both weak and in pain. Tristan thought himself pretty damn clever. So clever, in fact, that he walked right in and ripped out Jackson’s heart as payback for Hayley’s torture of him a few episodes back.

Tristan

We’re pretty sure Tristan’s going to spend an eternity regretting that decision, what with him being trapped in a shipping container by his own Seratura drowning for the rest of time and all.

We were more than a little impressed with Freya’s ingenuity. Why not turn Aurora’s horrific plan to punish Klaus against her?

First she needed to get Aurora out of the equation, which was easy enough thanks to Vincent’s power as Regent and Elijah’s uncanny ability to drive a well-timed stake. Then it was just a matter of convincing Cami to help out which took absolutely no time at all.

Cami posed as Aurora at the hostage swap, and was able to walk straight out of the Seratura-spelled shipping container due to her not being living or dead at the moment. Bravo to Freya. Tristan is now out of the picture as he drowns repeatedly at the bottom of the ocean for all time.

Tonight’s episode was definitely a tale of two deaths, just not exactly the ones we were expecting. Rest in peace Jackson Kenner. We knew you were doomed from the minute you and Hayley said, “I do,” but we wished it wasn’t true every step of the way. Rest assured that Hayley will continue to protect your people and do your legacy proud.
