Davina has some important decisions to make that will affect more than just her in the coming days and weeks on The Originals. What do we think is the best choice for her?
In The Originals season 3, episode 11, “Wild at Heart,” we saw Aya present Davina with an incredibly enticing offer. Everybody who’s anybody in the Quarter knows that Davina is desperate for a way to get Kol Mikaelson back to the land of the living, and Aya is ready to exploit that. Davina is especially vulnerable now that she has been shunned by her coven and the ancestors from whom she used to draw power.
We all thought that when Davina was made Regent at the end of season 2 that she had the answer to her resurrection problems, but thanks to some clever maneuvering on Vincent’s part, she had the rug pulled out from under her. She’s now an outcast to the coven that she was just starting to feel belonging toward as Regent after the disastrous Harvest festival.
Aya, also known as the leader of the Strix (now that Tristan has been sent to the depths of the ocean), presented Davina with an almost irresistible proposal. She promised to give Davina the thing she wants most in the world, Kol, but she must become a part of the Strix coven of witches to get it.
Now, we don’t know exactly what it means to be a part of the Strix coven. We have only seen them in one episode, so it’s hard to nail down exactly what kind of quality of life you get as a Strix coven member. Would it be worth it to resurrect Kol only to be kept away from him for the rest of her life? Part of the reason that Davina is so determined to save him is because they have developed some seriously intense feelings for each other, so that would be counter-productive.
Davina went to witch-purgatory where Kol is currently residing to talk to him about her newest option. She showed him the spell that Aya handed her, and he begged her to find another way. It seems that Kol may have had some experience with the Strix coven, but we don’t know why exactly he objects so strongly.
So, should Davina resurrect Kol as a member of the Strix coven and subject herself to whatever rules and conditions they have for her life from here on out? Or should Davina keep searching for another way to resurrect Kol and keep her independence? Or maybe she should just move on completely and stop trying to bring back the lost Mikaelson?
We wish that she would consult Freya, who is probably the best person to advise Davina in this situation. Freya has lived a life of servitude, but she also will want to see her brother returned to the living, so she can see both sides to Davina’s choice.
Unfortunately, Freya is a Mikaelson, and Davina has had very bad experiences when trusting or working with the Mikaelsons. We’re not sure if she would take Freya’s advice even if she gave it.
