The break is over! The Mikaelson family and all their drama returned last night on The Originals season 2. And a drama-filled return it was.

Here’s your 15 word recap of the last episode of The Originals: Hayley married Jackson, the ‘Always and Forever’ clan embraced Kol, Finn hexed Kol, and then Kol died. That about sums it up. Now we move on to what exactly the Mikaelsons are doing now.

‘The Originals’ season 2, episode 15 recap

Rebekah finds herself chased by two strange men, and when she can’t summon even an ounce of magic, she realizes she’s in serious trouble. *Cue Marcel* The dashing vampire swoops in and saves her from the scary stick the men were shaking at her, and whisks her away to safety. (This is where we swoon, right?)

Klaus is trying to arrange for the wolves to be his own personal army, but Jackson is more concerned about keeping the homestead, and Hope, safe. Klaus is feeling territorial, and tries to prove that he can order Jackson around. Jackson lays down the law that he is only putting the wolves to work finding Freya and Finn because Hayley asked.

Marcel finally gets Rebekah to talk about why she was putting herself in danger. She was looking for a way to boost her magic so she can get started on resurrecting Kol. Elijah arrives, and Rebekah tells him that whoever attacked her was interested in the body she’s inhabiting, not the soul currently residing there. Marcel knows better than to confront the witches that attacked her. He’s going to consult Josephine LaRue, a matriarch to covens outside the quarter. Elijah insists on going instead. Godspeed, good friend.

Finn takes Freya to where Mikael’s body is still lying after being channeled by Finn for power. Freya uses her blood and a spell to re-awaken him.

Elijah asks Gia to play for Ms. LaRue, as he wants to show her that there’s more to his vampire clan than blood-drinking. She’s resistant, but relents after making a few pointed digs at his clothes and an unfortunate joke about women messing up his life. Way to kick a man when he’s down, Gia.

Jackson goes to Aiden to round up the wolves to find Finn, and Aiden mentions that many of the wolves are already curious about what they can do with their new abilities outside of the pack. Jackson is dismissive, and as soon as he leaves earshot, Klaus steps in to meddle in affairs he doesn’t have any place in. Par for the course, really.

Jackson wants Aiden to hunt down Finn as a pack, and Klaus wants him to move quietly. Which will the wolf choose?

Freya and Mikael have a moment where, in a startling turn, Mikael actually acts fatherly toward one of his children. A touching moment for sure.

You have to appreciate the uncomfortable weirdness between Jackson and Hayley. They really should just put on some Marvin Gaye, though. Let someone else watch the baby for a minute.

The seer that Marcel hired reads Rebekah’s tea leaves and basically tells her she’s a murderer. The seer believed her to be collecting children for power, and, in order to protect his own son, he poisons her.

Elijah and Gia meet Mrs. LaRue, and while she is pleasant enough, she has no interest in spending any more time than necessary with Elijah thanks to the nefarious activity his family has brought to the Quarter. Gia begins to insult Ms. LaRue, and the witch leader quickly changes her tune. She hears them out, and Elijah requests that they leave Eva Sinclair (AKA the body Rebekah has taken up residence in) to him. Ms. LaRue tells him that she needs an equal trade. She wants him to expel Finn from Vincent’s body and return him to her. Elijah has ZERO problems with that, and tells her to “consider it done.”

Aiden has a brief run in with Mikael, but Freya stops her father before he can slaughter the wolf. With a sharp whistle, she and Daddy disappear.

Klaus goes to the cemetery to confront Finn. Finn steps out of hiding and the two begin to showdown. Just as Klaus is about to deal the deathblow, Elijah stops him. He tells him that the witches want Vincent returned unharmed to them. Freya joins the party, removes Finn from Vincent’s body for safe-keeping, and offers her brothers a deal. She tells them that if she is awake, so is Dahlia, and it is only a matter of time before Dahlia senses Hope’s magic and comes for her. Freya wants to work with Klaus and Elijah to kill Dahlia, but before Freya can make much of a promise, Klaus starts his normal protests. He doesn’t know her, he doesn’t trust her, and she just awakened Mikael, so he’s not a big fan, either.

Elijah, on the other hand, accepts that Freya is who she says she is, but will reserve his trust until she has earned it. Freya, rather than getting upset, merely tells him that she will do her part to deserve it.

Hayley’s having a little trouble getting Hope down, and Jackson steps in. While he settles Hope, he admits that how Aiden played the scenario with Mikael saved wolf lives. Hayley and Jackson finally have a quiet moment and they quickly move to the bed and get down to business.

Klaus arrives and tries to manipulate Hayley into using the wolves to hunt down Mikael, claiming that it’s all to keep Hope safe. She refuses to let him use her people to settle his old scores, and pledges that if he ever tries to use Hope again, she will take the baby and he will never see either of them again.

Elijah returns to the loft, and he and Gia have a chat about the day’s events. He thanks her and gives her credit for sealing the deal with Ms. LaRue. After some moments of tense silence, he helps her out of her dress, and they kiss, definitely on the on ramp for some Marvin Gaye-worthy action.

Klaus meets Aiden alone at a bar, and he begins trying to talk him into taking over leadership from Jackson. Aiden is skeptical and rightly so, but Klaus insists that all he will ever ask of him is that the pack protect Hope.

Our last moments of the episode show Eva Sinclair returning to control of her body and moving against a couple of young kids making out. She murders the boy and steals the girl’s power before killing her as well.
