If you watched The Originals this past Monday, you probably know exactly which scene we can’t get out of our heads.

When it comes to the Mikaelsons, Kol and Finn have always been the exterior siblings, the ones not included when we first think of the ‘Original siblings.’ It had been Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah for so long that it was incredibly hard to accept that the other two siblings may have just as much, if not more, to offer than the Original trio.

This past week, we were blessed with a scene between Daniel Sharman and Joseph Morgan (playing Kol/Kaleb and Klaus respectively), in which the Mikaelson brothers finally bury the hatchet. Each has done a fair share of wrong to the other, and neither has been able to overlook the dalliances of the past to give the future a fresh start.

In the scene below, the two brothers FINALLY get the brutal truths that have weighed them down for centuries off their chests. Check out the scene for a little reminder (and because it is just too spectacular not to want to watch again and again), and then check out our favorite bits of the scene.

Why we can’t stop thinking about it

1. This line:

“Oh, you’re angry, are you? Well, join the party, I’ve been here a thousand years.”

2. Just a look

The desperation in Kol’s eyes when he really believes that Klaus might finish him off is utterly remarkable. You can see the terror, the finality, and the acceptance all in that very same moment. Kol has resigned himself to his death, one way or another, but he seems both relieved and surprised that his death blow is about to be struck by his brother.

3. Mixing insults with forgiveness

Klaus calling Kol an idiot while trying to remind him why the idea of murdering his own brother is ludicrous. A tension tamer, yes, but probably not the best way to word what he was trying to say. Not Klaus’ most elegant speech.

4. ‘You are a Mikaelson’ (drops mic)

Watching Klaus finally release the brother, who had just marched in there throwing magic around willy-nilly in service of their homicidal sibling, of his deathly anticipation is only bettered by the full line he speaks: “You are a Mikaelson. You’re my blood. And I need you. I need you by my side.”

5. Finn is out

While Klaus’ forgiveness and family loyalty can stretch just far enough to finally include Kol, Finn is definitely on the outs. There is no road back from the atrocities he committed or helped their mother to commit.
