The Originals returned with a punch on last night’s episode, “The Big Uneasy.” Every faction is looking out for themselves, and it’s only a matter of time before one of them strikes.

Recap of ‘The Originals’ season 1, episode 18, ‘The Big Uneasy’

Klaus and Genevieve are still hooking up or whatever you want to call it. He is even painting her in the nude, so they’re definitely close. He is always Klaus through and through though, and he is looking for Genevieve’s official allegiance in addition to being his lady friend.

Davina and the other Harvest girls are, well, hanging out? It wasn’t exactly clear what they were doing, but Monique channeled the ancestors and they gave her a message. It’s time to complete the Reaping, which means Genevieve needs to die.

Elijah is making some improvements to the Mikaelson homestead, and while Klaus is resistant, Genevieve thinks it’s a good idea to make a few changes. Since Elijah is the maker of the peace, she asks him if the French Quarter witches can begin celebrating their feasts publicly again, beginning with the upcoming Feast of the Blessings.

Elijah is concerned about Hayley not being around. Klaus calms him by promising to bring Hayley home before the birth of the child, or as he puts it, “No child of mine is going to be born in a swamp.” Elegantly put there, Klaus.

Hayley is a little freaked out by the line of random stranger wolves forming outside her homestead in werewolf country. Klaus has Oliver running errands for him, and insists that they keep up the ruse that Elijah’s peace is working.

Klaus visits Cami at the bar to tell her that he has aligned himself with Genevieve, and that she has the power to help Cami’s Uncle Kieran.

Marcel meets with Thierry and tells him that he wants to prove that Klaus is working against Elijah so that he can turn the two of them against each other.

Monique tells Genevieve that the ancestors are ready for her sacrifice, and while Genevieve says she will be happy to make that sacrifice, now is not quite her time. She wants to steal Esther Mikaelson’s spellbook and deliver it back to the coven so they can better protect themselves against the power of the Originals.

Elijah tells the vampire, werewolf, and human representatives that they are all required to show up at the witches’ public event in support of the treaty. Elijah sees right through Jackson’s immediate agreement and warns Hayley not to trust the werewolves.

Oliver brings Klaus a werewolf from his family line, Cary, whom Klaus asks to find out what stone was housed in the moonlight ring.

Thierry brings Diego to Marcel’s warehouse/loft/apartment to try and convince him to join Marcel’s plan. Let’s just say Diego’s not on board.

In werewolf country, Hayley catches Jackson and Oliver whispering together, and rather than taking their crap, forces them to give her some answers. You go girl. Pregnancy hormones or not, it’s about time those boys let you in on their little secret. Jackson tells Hayley that they’ve aligned with Klaus, and she insists on hearing all the details.

Genevieve asks Klaus for Esther’s grimier, and when he refuses, she refuses to help Cami’s uncle. There is definitely a power stalemate going on between them, and it’s not going to end anytime soon.

Genevieve was hoping to use the distraction of the firework show to have an ally steal Esther’s spellbook, but Klaus was there to intercept. Never misses a trick, that man.

Elijah hangs back to talk to Davina, who is a little less than receptive since Klaus killed Tim. Hayley arrives shortly behind Genevieve and Davina as the representative for the werewolves.

The representatives from the other supernatural factions bring gifts to the Harvest girls, and lay the boxes at their feet. In a similar act, Cami arrives with a gift for Genevieve. She tearfully presents Genevieve with a very beautiful hair comb, and Genevieve seems to take pity on her.

Josh shows up to comfort Davina just as she has had enough of being ignored by the other factions. Klaus sees Josh and mentions that they have “unfinished business.”

Klaus presents Davina with a gift, but she only accepts it after he grants Josh a pardon. Klaus gifted Davina a ring accompanied with the spell to make daylight rings. She and Josh are unsurprisingly excited about the prospect.

A band of drummers walks into the room and slits their wrists, announcing that they are a gift from Marcel. Unable to control themselves, lights flicker and vampires attack the men, killing them and a few others in the fray.

Hayley was injured in the attack, but not badly. Elijah immediately looks for her and runs to her aid.

Elijah pays Marcel and Thierry a visit, and pulls Thierry’s heart from his body as punishment for Marcel’s violation of his exile from the Quarter.

Klaus presents Genevieve with the hands of the man she sent to steal Esther’s grimour. While she is startled by them, she tells Klaus that he should fear her. She tells Klaus about Cami’s gift, and goes on to spill the beans about Marcel and Cami’s sexual exploits.

Elijah and Klaus have a heart to heart about Elijah’s loyalty. While he has done everything possible to bring about Klaus’ redemption, Elijah is always questioned. He ends the conversation with the announcement that he will not deny himself anymore. If he wants something, he’ll take it. (And we all want him to run and “take” Hayley, am I right?!)

Klaus goes to the bar to apologize to Cami for insulting Genevieve and therefore sentencing Kieran to the horrible death coming for him. He tells Cami that he knows about her affair with Marcel, and after she tries to justify it, he tells her to tell Marcel that if he sees him again, he will kill him.

Elijah goes to watch Hayley with her werewolf clan, and the blonde werewolf elder meets with him in the privacy of the treeline. He just wants her to be happy, and as she laughs and smiles with her werewolf brethren, he leaves without going to her.

Monique is insisting on Genevieve’s death, and when she grabs the knife to do the deed, the ancestors possess her and give her a message. They no longer want Genevieve’s life, as they believe she still has more to offer, but they want the life of Klaus’ baby in return.
