One of the most intriguing dynamics on The Originals pilot last spring was the power struggle between Klaus and Marcel, the former king and the reigning king. As Klaus’ protege, Marcel has been ruling over the streets of New Orleans with an iron fist, and now that Klaus is back in town, there is bound to be one heck of a power struggle between the two characters.
In this clip, we see Marcel exerting his power over the witches of New Orleans in an extended look at the execution scene we saw in The Originals pilot last spring:
Marcel’s dry sarcasm and instantaneous judgement make for a good match to Klaus’ quick-temper and ability to hold a grudge for, well, actual eons. This power struggle is only one of the many interesting threads at play in this scene from the new The Originals pilot however, as its nice to see more from Sophie as she tries desperately to take care of her sister, even after her death.
Will the witches rise up in rebellion over Marcel and the vampires of New Orleans? We can only hope, as watching an epic vampire vs. witch war in the streets would certainly make for a compelling story.
We only have one more week of waiting until The Originals season 1 lands on our televisions, ending the long wait since last May. As we all still have so many questions about Hayley, the baby, Camille, and the other new characters, hopefully this last week of waiting goes quickly!
