The Originals may not return til January, but the Mikaelsons and all their friends were in San Diego for Comic-Con to get us all excited about what is to come for Hayley, Hope and all those in caskets at the end of season three.

While we may have just officially learned about The Vampire Diaries ending after season 8, The Originals is alive and well, we just have to wait a little longer for our Mikaelson fix. We won’t see new episodes of our favorite Original vampires until 2017, but it certainly seems like it will be well worth the wait.

At the fan panel at San Diego Comic-Con, fans were excited to learn that we will be jumping forward 5 years in the timeline. What this means for crossover potential, we have no idea, but we’ll just have to wait and see. We do know that his will put previously 2-year-old Hope at 7 years old, and we were treated to a view of the back of her head as Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) assures her that they are going to get her daddy (cue fangirl awwww’s).

Daniel Gilles and Joseph Morgan were up to their old tricks as they bantered back and forth, giving each other crap as only they can, especially in regards to Klaus playing the hero at the end of season 3. Dan wasn’t buying it, and we all got a good laugh out of it. Those two have always had a very special relationship that is encouraging and fun for fans to get a glimpse of every year.

We also got a good laugh as Charles Michael Davis, otherwise known as Marcel, asked the audience who they want as king of New Orleans. He only got a handful of cheers for Marcel, and a booming roomful of support for Klaus. He then proceeded to try and kick out all of Klaus’ supporters, but thankfully, he isn’t king of San Diego Comic-Con.

Phoebe Tonkin, known to fans as Hayley Marshall, got a chance to talk a bit about how Hayley has only ever wanted a family, and now she sort of has one, if she can get them out of their coffins. It’s the family she made, thanks to Hope.

Michael Narducci took a moment to talk about how much they miss Danielle Campbell and Leah Pipes, but he went on to remind us that good TV should affect us emotionally, and that it can prompt important conversations about life and death. He was just as unhappy about saying goodbye to those ladies as they are fantastic women, actresses, and human beings. We will all miss Cami and Davina for sure.

We also learned that we will be getting some backstory for Vincent this season, as we learn just exactly why New Orleans is such a part of who he is, and why he sticks around despite a plethora of reasons to vamoose.

The fan questions brought about some interesting discussion, particularly regarding Klaus’ future love life. We will be 5 years in the future by the time we return, and although he will have spent all of those in immense amounts of pain thanks to Papa Tunde’s knife, he might be ready to move on from the loss of Cami. If and when he is ready, Julie Plec has plans. When asked if those plans may include Caroline, she didn’t squash hope, but she didn’t promise anything either. She only said that some people will be very happy with said plans, but it will leave just as many fans unhappy. It’s definitely a vague response, so we’ll just have to see how things end on The Vampire Diaries and if Caroline is even available for a happily ever after with Klaus.

Overall, it was a lovely panel, even if it was short. The cast and creative forces behind the show packed quite a bit of fun into those 35 minutes, including Dan Gilles kissing the entry camera and making half the room swoon.

What are you most excited to see in ‘The Originals’ season 4?
