The Originals actress Phoebe Tonkin has given a new interview about her character Hayley’s relationship with Klaus, and how she’ll deal with the surprise pregnancy.

The premiere of The Originals on The CW is still a couple of months away, and Julie Plec and co. are currently working hard on planning and writing season 1.

Actress Phoebe Tonkin, who plays the werewolf Hayley in the Originals-centric The Vampire Diaries spinoff, speaks to IGN about how the character will deal with her pregnancy arc.

She says that when the series picks up after the backdoor pilot which aired earlier this year, “We’re really going to see Hayley actually deal with the information that she is pregnant and that she is a young woman with a child, or a child about to come.”

Although the episode saw Klaus (Joseph Morgan) begin to come to terms with the fact that he’s having a child, Tonkin doesn’t think this changes his feelings for Hayley.

“Those two go together very much as a one-night kind of thing,” Tonkin says, although now that she’s pregnant with his child, “I think they’re going to have to reassess their relationship with each other.”

In the interview, Tonkin also admits that she’s happy to be moving on from playing high school characters to playing a young adult dealing with real life issues.

“Having an issue like pregnancy with it, an unplanned pregnancy, is a very real topical issue, and it’s nice to explore an issue like that within a supernatural world,” she says.

The Originals will premiere Tuesday, October 15 at 8/7c on The CW.
