Dahlia is in the building… or, well, the Quarter, and is ready to wreak havoc if she doesn’t get what she wants. Check out what happens next in our recap of The Originals season 2, episode 18.

‘The Originals’ season 2, episode 18 recap

Hayley, Jackson, and Hope go out for a stroll through the Quarter and soon they’re confronted by a myriad of creepy signs, a violin song, a man with Black Dahlias, and so on. When the flower peddler’s eyes go milky white, it’s clear he’s being possessed. When that possession switches instantly to Jackson, Klaus knows that it’s Dahlia.

Klaus can barely hold his fury in when they get home. How DARE Hayley take her baby for a walk. Freya tells them that the spell Dahlia used is called a kenning spell. It allows her to possess anyone and spy through their eyes. While they won’t be able to stop her from possessing strangers, Freya does provide them with a tonic that will keep Dahlia out of their minds. Klaus, Elijah, Hayley, Rebekah, and Freya drink it.

Davina is at Kaleb’s grave grieving and Klaus hunts her down to ask for her help with controlling Mikael. Davina agrees to help with Mikael if Klaus hands her over Kol’s ashes to use to resurrect him.

And then we see Aiden and Josh curled up in bed together (squeal.) While Josh proposes they watch Netflix and order some Chinese, Klaus calls and summons Aiden to help with the Jackson situation.

Davina and Klaus have an incredibly real moment in which Klaus talks about how easy it is to manipulate those that have loved ones. After a moment of pause, Davina asks him how it feels to have joined their ranks. Klaus has someone that he loves more than himself now in Hope, and she can be, will be, and has been used against him.

Elijah and Marcel meet with Ms. LaRue in Algers to ask her to spell a building to be a magic-free zone. She is unwilling to create a place where her kind would be powerless, but if she combines a traditional blessing with a disruption spell, it should provide them with the protected area they are looking for.

Klaus and Mikael have yet ANOTHER heart-to-heart in which they sling their usual insults. Klaus halts it and asks Mikael to help protect both their daughters, Freya and Hope, by taking his side and fighting as an ally. Mikael agrees… somewhat reluctantly. Then Dahlia possesses the waitress and shatters the window they were sitting by. Nice touch, Dahlia.

Freya asks Rebekah to let her channel her energy to trace Dahlia’s spellwork from Jackson back to the source. They begin the spell and Rebekah draws her hand back after just a few moments. Rebekah discovered that Dahlia is channeling Freya’s power, and that is why she can do such intensely powerful magic. Hayley freaks out and Rebekah dismisses Freya, telling her that she wishes they could trust her.

Davina has been drafted into helping the unlikely allies Mikael and Klaus. They need her to bind three items that represent the sources of Dahlia’s power to a weapon that can be used to kill her once and for all. Klaus swears on Hope’s life that if Davina helps them take out Dahlia, he will hand over Kol’s ashes (from his original body) so Davina can resurrect him.

After seeing Dahlia on the street, Freya returns to the homestead to warn Elijah and the rest about Dahlia’s plans. She tells them she will want to use sacred ground that has been stained by the blood of the innocent to maximize her ability to draw on dark forces of power. It’s about damn time we return to that church again, eh?

Klaus and Mikael go to the church and Dahlia is standing in front of the altar. She summons a mass of people who all begin to challenge the Mikaelson men.

Jackson asks Aiden to get a car and meet them at the service entrance at 8:45 p.m. that night precisely. He wants to get Hayley and Hope as far away as he can. Aiden agrees.

Josh confronts Aiden about his lie that morning when Klaus called, and Aiden tells him about what is haunting him. He wants to honor Jackson’s wishes, but if he does, he knows Klaus will kill him.

Klaus and Mikael slaughtered the entire pack of minions that Dahlia attacked them with, but she began decimating them as soon as they confronted her directly. They fight against it, but they cannot overpower her.

Freya appears, and when she refuses to stand beside Dahlia, the witch attacks her. Mikael jumps on her in defense of his beloved daughter, and he distracts her for a moment, which spares Freya. Elijah tries to attack, but is thrown back. Then Klaus dives toward her, but Dahlia disappears before he can reach her, sending him crashing into the altar, turning it to splinters. The knife they had created is gone when he looks for where it may have fallen in his spill.

Marcel and Josh appear at the homestead to retrieve Hope and Hayley, but no one is there. Jackson, Hope, and Hayley are waiting outside for Aiden, who never arrives. Marcel does though, and Hayley plays off their former plan as them simply waiting on Marcel (who totally doesn’t buy the act).

Dahlia destroys the weapon they created to destroy her. She tells them to hand over Hope and she will spare them her wrath.

Aiden is torn up about his divided loyalties. Josh has a beautiful speech in which he tells Aiden that Marcel, Davina, and Aiden make up his pack, his family, and that he would die for them.

While they attempted to regroup, Freya berates them for wasting the ingredients Mikael procured to make only a single weapon (which Dahlia poofed out of existence). Klaus then reiterates those ingredients: Freya’s blood, Norweigan soil, and the ashes of her Viking oppressors. The first two are easy to get, but the ashes are the greatest trouble. He then shows her that their father is of that Viking line and stakes him with the White Oak Stake, causing him to burst into flames and burn. They will soon have the ash they need.

Ms. LaRue hears a violinist playing in the streets and she goes out to greet her. That woman is Dahlia. The ancient witch uses Josephine to send a message to the Mikaelsons by slitting her throat with the violin bow.
