Fans of Netflix’s The Old Guard can rest easy knowing that work on the sequel is moving right along!

Speaking to Variety, actress Charlize Theron revealed that the script for Netflix’s The Old Guard sequel has already been written.

In addition, the actress confirmed that the plan is for the highly anticipated sequel to begin filming sometime early on next year in 2022.

Based one the hit graphic novel series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, Netflix’s adaptation of The Old Guard hit the online streaming giant in July of 2020.

The action film followed Andy (Theron)— a warrior and leader of a troop of tight-knit mercenaries who can’t ever die. In fact, Andy’s covert group has been fighting alongside each other to protect the mortal world ever since they first met battling one another in the Crusades.

The first film finds the mercenaries’ lives taking a turn when they take on an emergency mission that suddenly exposes their extraordinary abilities. Together with their newest recruit— a reluctant soldier named Nile (Kiki Layne)— they’re faced with the arduous task of trying to take down the threat that seeks to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.

Plot details for The Old Guard sequel are scarce, but it’s possible that the second movie could take its cue from Rucka and Fernandez’ second graphic novel.

Either way, we’re sure fans will be excited to find out what the future has in store for Andy and the rest of the gang.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see The Old Guard sequel debut via Netflix.
