Several stars from The Office expressed their interest in Steve Carell returning to the show in its 9th and final season.

Speaking at the 2012 CNN Heroes event, Jenna Fischer who plays Pam on The Office said she would love to have Steve Carell back to the show:

We would all love Steve to come back. He’s more than welcome and more than invited to come back. There’s nothing confirmed, but everyone’s fingers are crossed…There’s a lot of things you have to work out in order to make that happen, but it would be great.”

Rainn Wilson, who plays Dwight and whose pilot for an Office spinoff was not picked up despite enthusiasm for the character from The Office fans, also seemed hopeful for Carell to return:

“There’s talk of it. He’s a very busy man and a huge movie star, so it’s going to be a tough one. But we’ll see what we can do.”

John Krasinski, who plays Jim, even has the storyline mapped out for Carell if he returns as Michael Scott:

“Maybe he comes back to check in on one of us. Maybe one of us is having a hard time and he comes to be the savior. That would be really nice.”

Sounds like maybe that person who is having a hard time may be Jim considering all of the career change talk that’s happening.

The Office doesn’t seem like it could have a huge final season without Steve Carell returning, right? What are your thoughts? Do you think Steve Carell should return?
