The beloved Fox drama The O.C. is making a comeback in the form of a musical!

Update: One of The O.C.‘s original stars is joining the musical, but in a new role!

Autumn Reeser, who played Ryan’s sometime-love interest Taylor Townsend, is set to play Marissa’s mother Julie Cooper (originally played by Melinda Clarke).

This makes us both happy and legitimately terrified of how quickly time flies. Reeser has gone from Ryan’s love interest, to the mother of his love interest! Someone stop the clocks, please.

Original ‘The O.C.: The Musical’ announcement

The creators of the unauthorized Cruel Intentions musical — which opened last month in Los Angeles to great reviews — are back again to re-create The O.C. in musical form.

The new musical only has a Twitter account at the moment. A tweet posted this morning offers a teaser of what to expect. As you can see, a performance of Aqualung’s “Strange and Beautiful (I Put A Spell On You)” will be making an appearance just like it did in season 1 of The O.C.:

And it looks like it’s going to be a tough show to get a ticket to:

A separate tweet notes that the show will take place on August 30, but again, at this time there’s no news on where in Los Angeles it’s happening.

In case you’re curious to see what this team is up to, the Cruel Intentions musical is still being performed at Los Angeles’ Rockwell on Thursdays and Fridays. The musical is based on the film of the same name starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair — who, by the way, were in attendance on opening night:

The O.C. ran from 2003 to 2007 on Fox and starred Mischa Barton, Adam Brody, Ben McKenzie, Kelly Rowan, Peter Gallagher, Rachel Bilson, and Melinda Clarke.
