HBO announced today that The Newsroom season 2 premiere release date has been set for July — and that’s not all!

On his official Twitter account last night, lead actor Jeff Daniels (who plays Will McAvoy) revealed that the first Newsroom season 2 promo will premiere with the season 2 premiere of Veep this Sunday, April 14 on HBO. We’ll bring it to you once it’s released online that evening.

The Newsroom season 2 will premiere Sunday, July 14 on the premium cable channel.

The Newsroom season 2 syopsis was also unveiled today: “In the new season, the staff of ‘News Night’ chases a mysterious tip, which leads to a story that ultimately spins out of control.”

Though we know that the show tends to focus on one particular news story per episode, the above synopsis appears to offer a glimpse into the overarching plot line of season 2.

The show stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn and Dev Patel. The Newsroom gained attention and acclaim thanks to its high-profile writer Aaron Sorkin, who reportedly let go of many of the show’s writers after season 1.

What news stories are you hoping The Newsroom covers in season 2? Sorkin confirmed earlier this month that the show’s season 2 story line begins a week after season 1 ended and will run through the November 2012 United States election.
