While we wait for the June 11 release of The Newsroom season 1 on blu-ray and DVD, HBO has treated us to a few of the extras fans can expect to see.

The extras released by HBO include a deleted scene from season 1 and a round table discussion from the big players. The deleted scene shows a situation in which Will is taking pictures with fans on the street while Lonnie is detaining a heckler who takes it a few steps too far when he decides to run at Will.

The round table discussion involves Aaron Sorkin, Alan Poul, Greg Mottola and many members of the cast discussing using actual news events rather than inventing their own news and events on which to report. They also talk about the emotional response that we can have as we re-live emotional events. They make a specific reference to the Gabby Gifford shooting episode and the oil spill episode and discuss briefly why those events were chosen for the script.

As the days wind down to the premiere of The Newsroom season 2 on HBO on July 14, we expect to be seeing more and more from our friends at HBO in regards to episode synopses and photos, but at least we have the DVD/Blu-ray release to tide us over until all the season 2 goodies come rolling in.
