As if we weren’t excited by the idea of a Muppets TV series on paper, the first trailer for the series is now available and reveals a great looking The Office-style comedy.

The nearly-three-minute trailer for The Muppets kicks off with all of your favorites gathering (in what we assume is a scene from the pilot episode) to discuss ABC’s decision to give them a television show. From there things only get better and better. Watch below:

Throughout the preview we get a variety of great clips featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo (who Miss Piggy claims to not know), and many other colorful characters as their “real life” is documented for the cameras. Interestingly, the trailer confirms the show is set in the real world: At one point Kermit complains about traffic on interstate 405, a real (and really busy) freeway in Los Angeles, California. In another great scene, Fozzie Bear overhears his human girlfriend discuss with her parents the “offensive” idea of dating a bear.

Speaking of Miss Piggy, the iconic actress is busy shooting a film when we first see her in this Muppets trailer. But after another lady pig steps into Kermit’s line of vision, Miss Piggy quits her role to join the new ABC show.

Those who’ve watched shows like The Office, Modern Family, and Parks & Rec will immediately recognize the documentary-style format, which Gonzo appropriately notes as lazy in a moment of self-parody.

ABC describes the series as “a contemporary, documentary-style show that, for the first time ever, will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.”

How do you think ‘The Muppets’ looks?

We’ll definitely be covering this one when it airs Tuesdays this fall on ABC.
