After her breakout role in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Sofia Boutella joined Star Trek 3, and now she’ll star opposite Tom Cruise in The Mummy remake.

The Wrap reports that Sofia Boutella has officially joined the film, where she’ll star opposite Tom Cruise, though she’s still in the early stages of finalizing her deal with the studio.

Other reports, including one from a reporter at Variety, indicate she’ll be playing the Mummy in the film.

Variety had also reported earlier about plot details, having said, “Details are vague other than it will be set in present day, unlike the previous three installments starring Brendan Fraser. Cruise isn’t expected to produce, but will play a major part in helping develop this new franchise, sources say. Cruise’s name is expected to play a large part in not only the Mummy franchise, but also in the monster universe, as it’s planned that characters will have roles in other monster movies leading up to an Avengers-style tie-in film.”

Tom Cruise will reportedly be playing a former Navy Seal who has had experience with mummies, but it seems as though he’ll take over a role similar to the one Brendan Fraser played in the original Mummy trilogy. With the cast and crew involved, we expect a more serious storyline than the previous films from Universal.

Now that we know Sofia Boutella will also star in the film, this reboot seems like it might actually be more interesting than we originally thought. Boutella is an amazing actress, who stunned everyone that saw her in Kingsman, and teaming up with Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise should be a solid lineup.

Sofia Boutella was born on April 6, 1982 in Algeria. She’s most recently known for her role in the hit film Kingsman: The Secret Service, where she kicked some major ass, but she’s also an incredibly talented dancer, so we look forward to seeing what she’ll do in both of her upcoming blockbusters.
