See a new trailer for the upcoming YA movie The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, starring Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell-Bower.

Cassandra Clare’s popular YA fantasy series The Mortal Instruments is being adapted for the big screen, and the first instalment City of Bones is out in August 2013.

The 1:32 minutes long international trailer for the movie has now been released, and you can watch it here:

The official synopsis for the film reads:

When her mom is attacked and taken from their home in New York City by a demon, a seemingly ordinary teenage girl, Clary Fray, finds out truths about her past and bloodline on her quest to get her back, that changes her entire life.

In this trailer, we see Clary Fray (Lily Collins) being told by Hodge Starkweather (Jared Harris) that while yesterday she was a normal girl, “Today your whole world has been turned upside-down.”

She is thrust right into the supernatural underground, where she meets Jace (Jamie Campbell-Bower) and his friends Isabelle (Jemima West) and Alec (Kevin Zegers), who are known as Shadow Hunters.

She learns that her mother Jocelyn (Lena Headey) was a Shadow Hunter too, and this makes Clary important to them.

We see a number of key scenes from the book in this trailer, such as the night club moment where she first meets Jace, the scene where she’s attacked in her mother’s apartment, and the lair of vampires she has to enter.

Clary has a destiny, and her mother has a dark secret – we won’t spoil anything, but we can’t wait to see Collins’ scenes with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, who plays the movie’s villain Valentine Morgenstern.
