Below are my thoughts on all the best and worst movies being released in cinemas this month. Feel free to post your opinions and personal most-anticipated lists in the comments below.

The Avengers

Joss Whedon assembles Earth’s mightiest heroes to take on Loki and his army of aliens. I saw this last week, and I can tell you that it is a must-see for any fan of action or comic-book movies.

Verdict: SEE

LOL

Someone had to make a film with this title eventually, and this one happens to star Miley Cyrus (comeback, perhaps) and Demi Moore.

Verdict: DON’T SEE

A Little Bit of Heaven

Gael Garcia Bernal smiles away as Kate Hudson learns to open herself up to true love! How sweet!

Verdict: DON’T SEE

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

A funny and sweet comedy that will certainly entertain people of all ages, around the world, after breaking records at the U.K. box office, and ushering elderly people back into theatres.

Verdict: SEE

Dark Shadows

Tim Burton’s gothic comedy, which seems to feature a bit more sex and drugs than people anticipated, finally arrives. The fact that it features Chloe Moretz, who shone in Hugo makes it a must-see for me, but did Burton HAVE TO crowbar his wifey into the film?

Verdict: SEE

Hick

Another Moretz vehicle here, but one showing on limited release, and unlikely to be seen by many.

Verdict: TRY TO SEE

Girl in Progress

After receiving praise for Bad Lieutenant, Eva Mendes returns to what she does worst, cheap spring romantic comedies.

Verdict: DON’T SEE

May 18

Battleship

Released about a month ago in Europe, this monstrosity finally reaches the U.S., with John Carter himself, Taylor Kitsch in the lead role.

Verdict: DON’T SEE

The Dictator

Likely to be a rare treat in a week of movie headaches, Sacha Baron Cohen’s newest mockumentary follows the life of a fascist dictator called General Aladeen, leader of the Republic of Wadea. Co-starring John C Reilly, Megan Fox and Amy Poehler, this has real potential to be hilarious!

Verdict: SEE

Hysteria

Premiering at the Rome Film Festival in October, this scientific rom-com finally gets released, with recent mother Maggie Gyllenhaal in one of her biggest roles. Also stars Hugh Dancy.

Verdict: TRY TO SEE

What to Expect When You’re Expecting

Cameron Diaz, Chris Rock and ex-X Factor U.K. judge Cheryl Cole star in this pregnancy comedy. Enough said.

Verdict: DON’T SEE

May 25

Men in Black 3

After the brilliant MIB and disappointing MIB 2, Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones are back to fight aliens and hook up with Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, making their movie debuts.

Verdict: SEE

Moonrise Kingdom

One of my most anticipated movies of the summer, the newest from Rushmore director Wes Anderson looks fantastic, with Anderson regulars Jason Schwartzmann and Bill Murray returning, and Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton taking their first step into the world of one of Hollywood’s greatest working directors and screenwriters.

Verdict: SEE

Chernobyl Diaries

Found-footage horror from the “people who brought us Paranormal Activity.” Give me Chronicle 2 any day.

Verdict: SEE

Now is Good

Feel depressed? Avoid this weepy film about a teenage girl with a terminal illness who desperately wants to lose her virginity at ALL COSTS!

Verdict: DON’T SEE

The Intouchables

Hugely successful French comedy/drama. Worth a look.

Verdict: TRY TO SEE
