In a busy news day for The Mindy Project, Fox has ordered six more episodes and the guest cast has grown by one ex-pie maker.

Fox just announced that they have ordered more episodes of The Mindy Project season 3. This bumps the episode order up from the original 15 to a total of 21 – making it a ‘traditional’ full season.

This is actually very interesting because originally Fox ordered only 15 episodes, but that was back in May 2014. The show has been on the fringe of what could be consider ‘good ratings’ lately, pulling around 3.1 million viewers in Live + 7 day numbers, according to Entertainment Weekly. Back when Kevin Reilly was in charge, he was not the most confident about comedies The Mindy Project, New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but he has since left the company and the shows’ ratings are hopefully decent enough to warrant more seasons.

Lee Pace to guest star as Alex, the virginity-stealing college kid.

As E! Online reports, Alex is “a handsome San Francisco tech millionaire who took Mindy’s virginity back when he was a dorky college student.” It is interesting to note here that it says when he was a college student, not ‘they’ – so that means that Mindy might have been a high schooler, college student, or older. Though, in all likelihood we’re going to bet she was at the collegiate level, as well.

No word yet on why or how Alex reappears in Mindy Lahiri’s life, but wonder what Danny Castellano will react. E! also notes that Pace is only slated for a one-episode appearance, so don’t expect anything too life-altering to happen. No word yet on when the episode will air, probably sometime early 2015.

We have commented on the ever-growing roster of guest stars to grace The Mindy Project sound stages this season, and by adding Lee Pace, season 3 is moving into “one for the ages” record books. Television connoisseurs will watch The Mindy Project season 3 decades from now and marvel at how frequently Mindy Kaling and her team were able to snag women like Shonda Rhimes, Rhea Perlman and Niecy Nash, and guys like Lee Pace. We don’t hate it.
