Another night, another game of telephone was played on The Mindy Project season 3, episode 19, “Fertility Bites.” Spoiler: the grape-vine spread some empty rumors about Danny.
Mindy is spreading herself a little thin. Between her full-time job at the current practice, trying to get her clinic off the ground and being pregnant, she’s sleep-deprived and malnourished (more malnourished than usual). We love seeing Mindy become a business owner, making mundane decisions about office decor, and trying to recruit patients from Schulman and Associates. It’s hard work!
The problem is, the work industry is a vicious cycle. You need to get experience to get ahead, but you need to get ahead to get experience. Morgan’s cousin Lou lands at Mindy’s doorstep and while she truthfully admits he would be her first client, she fibs a little and says she helped herself get pregnant. She and Danny had no trouble conceiving, but Lou assumes they did and finds a kinship in “shooting blanks” like Danny.
At Schulman, though, the employees threaten to walk out if Jeremy doesn’t talk to the new, supposedly incredible, doctor. Dr. Bergdahl demands Tamra make everyone sandwiches, refuses Danny’s deodorant even when his BO is strong, and he destroys the nurses’ fundraising poster!
Tamra finally gives Jeremy the ultimatum and Dr. Bergdahl goes to yell at them. Later that night, they find him passed out in his car, surrounded by days-old takeout containers. Is he dead or is his living in his car? Turns out he is on the outs with his wife and by living in his car, he can delay the inevitable end of his marriage. It’s a bit sad, but hard to find sympathy for a guy who was yelling at our characters minutes ago.
Danny gives what should be an uplifting speech, but really turns out to be a whole innuendo about his supposed infertility and the help getting Mindy pregnant. Topped off with the cork of a bottle, well, not exactly flying off. After this underwhelming outburst, Danny has an explosion when Lou addresses Danny’s supposed problems. Turns out, the reason Mindy got pregnant was because they were a little happy on New Year’s Eve and had sex under The Lion King billboard in Times Square. Okay then.
In the end, Dr. B makes a deal with Mindy. Since she’s living with Danny full-time now, he’ll stay at her apartment in exchange for referrals to her clinic. Hopefully she can start impregnating couples, which will bring in more clients and she can be as wildly successful as Mindy Kaling.
Tonight also featured a tiny cameo by the one and only Kris Jenner. Does she count as a guest star? If so, she can join the ginormous list of The Mindy Project season 3 guest stars.
