Mindy and Danny try – and fail – to aptly define their relationship, but plenty of hilarity does ensue on The Mindy Project. Check out the recap!

Let’s just get this out of the way: Mindy and Danny are dating! Danny is making her pancakes! They’re dating in secret! It’s all adorable! Alas, the honeymoon period is all too brief.

Danny, to Mindy over breakfast: “You’re very important to me.”

All of the joy we see as they sneak around the office is put aside when Mindy walks into her apartment for the first time in three days and realize’s she’s been robbed. This is Mayor de Blasio’s New York! Someone should stay with Mindy to keep her safe, obviously. Morgan immediately volunteers, much to the dismay of Mindy – and Danny.

Morgan, trying to reassure Mindy she’s safe later that night: “No one is going to cut you up into little pieces tonight.”

Morgan pulls a puppy out of his duffle bag once Mindy retires to the room for the evening. The adorable puppy finds mens scrubs shoved under Morgan’s bed (the couch) and Peter’s pen Danny was seen chewing on earlier in the episode falls out of the pocket. Naturally, Morgan assumes Mindy and Peter are sleeping together.

Morgan brings the pen to Jeremy, and after hearing about Peter dating a ‘chubster,’ all of the (wrong) clues fall into place. Concerned for her well-being, they want to interfere.

Trouble brews even further when Danny’s old fling, Brooke, a pharmaceutical rep is in town. She expects them to pick up right where they left off. When Brooke shows up to the office, flirting and falling all over a resistant Danny, Mindy jealously – humorously – looks on.

Peter puts Danny on the spot as he denies having a girlfriend – right in front of Mindy. Uh-oh.
When Mindy tries to break the news to Morgan that Dr. C and Dr. L are dating, Danny freaks out and says they are throwing a party! At Mindy’s house! Everyone’s invited! Brooke misinterprets Danny’s invitation to attend Mindy’s party as a date.

To make this up to Mindy, Danny puts on a tie and sends a selfie, it’s adorable.

At the party, Brooke is fawning all over Danny. Seeing her flirt all over Danny, Mindy grips a wine glass so hard, the glass shatters everywhere. Peter’s reaction is so priceless it’s worth watching this episode again and again just for that shot.

Mindy seeks refuge beside her bed, hiding, trying to smoke a cigarette when Peter goes to rescue her. She confides in Peter – why won’t Danny go public with her? He tries to reason that secret relationships to guys are because they’re scared of losing the girl, and he devises a plan to drive Danny crazy. Even if there’s no chance of Mindy hooking up with another guy, seeing her with someone – Peter – will get under his skin.

It, of course, works. It also further proves Morgan and Jeremy’s theory that the two are sleeping together. After awkwardly maneuvering around the apartment, Mindy eventually tries to seductively sit on Peters lap but ends up breaking the chair in the process. Party, over.

Once the party winds down, everyone convenes in Mindy’s living room where Jeremy and Morgan go off the wall on Peter’s mistreatment of Mindy. What will happen when they break up!? Why must Mindy date men within their office building? After Betsy proclaims her love for Danny, he stands up to admit his relationship with Mindy, but he just can’t and Mindy walks away disappointed.

Later, she presents him with an ultimatum – they either go public or they call it off. Danny walks away but Mindy calls her own bluff.

Danny: “I need to have you in my life. I have to have you.” They fight, at least once a day now. Mindy is Danny’s best – only – friend. What happens when they break up? Danny doesn’t want to risk losing her altogether. Mindy thinks their constant bickering could create a stronger bond, but he walks away, leaving her crying in bed.

‘The Mindy Project’s second episode of the night, “Girl Crush,” begins by confirming Danny’s fears – they’ve broken up and now their friendship is damaged.

Mindy seems to be doing okay though, she’s trying to return deodorant to its rightful owner when Sheila Hamilton, gynecologist to the stars, strikes up conversation with her. We quickly learn Mindy considers Sheila is a celebrity in her own right – she delivered North West!

Sheila thinks Mindy should drop by her office to just entertain the idea of possibly being siphoned from Shulman & Associates. She’s presented with cookies and silk gowns, yoga studios, smoothies and a 3D model of her uterus.

Could Hamilton Health Partners be a better fit for Mindy? They seem to appreciate her – which is more than she can say for her current colleagues. But when Sheila breaks the news that her practice doesn’t take insurance – everyone pays out of pocket – Mindy’s conscious kicks into high gear and she walks away.

When Mindy goes back to Sheila, groveling for the job after being kicked to the curb – literally – by Shulman & Associates, she realizes the only reason they were interested in her was to promote diversity on their new billboard. Lame!

Sally Prentice – Peter’s “crazy” sister is visiting for an education about laser hair removal. While in the office, she takes Danny’s hand at the precise moment Mindy walks into the kitchen and stomps out. Interested, Danny tries to start something with Sally to the dismay of Peter. When Sally sends Danny a picture of her chest, Peter looks at it long enough to sear an image of his sisters boobs into his brain. Peter tries to explain to Danny that he’s just using Sally as a Mindy rebound, and with that, he ends it.

Elsewhere: Jeremy debuts the new portable gynecologist unit, where the four doctors are featured prominently on the side and Mindy sneezing. They try to drive business by providing free breast exams to certain locations in the city. It doesn’t go well.

Jeremy, looking for his colleagues: “I need a magic flute for you people!”

Women throw fruit at them while screaming in spanish and Mindy comes to save the boys at the last minute. There’s the recognition she’s been looking for! All is well.
