While I enjoyed the movie more than perhaps any other book-to-screen adaptation, there are a few details they could have been added to help the movie make more sense to those who hadn’t read the books (like my father).

1. Make the Prim-Rue connection to Katniss more obvious. They could have done this by dressing Rue in a skirt/shirt for the interviews and have her tuck in her “duck tail” before going on stage.

2. Make the “Peeta loves Katniss” thing more obvious. My dad, who hadn’t read the books, was confused as to if it was really real or not. In my opinion, it always was, though this is not obvious in the movies.

3. Make it more obvious that Katniss was starving at one point. The whole bread thing didn’t make sense to my dad, because Katniss looked pretty much healthy when Peeta tossed the bread to her.

4. Make EVERYONE in the districts look starving. The biggest point my dad missed in the movie was why it was called The Hunger Games, because they didn’t look all that hungry. I mean, one of the first shots is of an old man eating, when in the book he probably wouldn’t have been. Also, this makes it confusing as to why Katniss would be hunting in the first place.

If they had done a few little things like this, the movie would have been perfect in my eyes. Hopefully they will clear these things up in Catching Fire next November.
