The long-awaited U.K. premiere of season 1 of The Legend of Korra has finally been announced. Plus, check out information on an Avatar story available on Free Comic Book Day.

Though The Legend of Korra season 1 first aired in the U.S. in April 2012, while fans in the U.K. and Ireland have been left adrift waiting for their new Avatar to arrive. But the drought will finally be coming to an end this summer.

According to a recent press release, Nickelodeon U.K. will begin airing season 1 of The Legend of Korra on Sunday, July 7. The animated series – a critical and ratings success in its initial U.S. run – will air at 9 a.m. for the duration of its 12-episode run.

In related news, Free Comic Book Day is rapidly approaching, and among the free goodies available on May 4 will be a story certain to please Avatar: The Last Airbender fans. The comic – written by Gene Luen Yang, author of The Promise and The Search – will focus on Mai, Zuko and Azula’s sullen-but-fascinating friend from childhood, and promises its fair share of intrigue and drama. The official summary reads:

When an earnest young man starts vying for her attention, Mai wonders if he is her ticket out of the dumps after her break up with Fire Lord Zuko. Little does she know, this fellow has a secret that will point her to a destination she least expects — danger!

Mai’s comic will be included with stories from the Star Wars and Captain Midnight franchises. (But seriously – Mai could take Darth Vader any day of the week.)
