Two new previews, along with showrunner commentary, lay out the challenges – and challengers – facing the Krew in The Legend of Korra season 3.

Fans may still be recovering from the shock of learning that The Legend of Korra season 3 will premiere next Friday on Nickelodeon, but the network isn’t letting anyone catch their breath.

Keeping up the excitement, Nickelodeon has released a new teaser commercial for the show, which highlights the theme of Book 3: Change.

In addition to offering a glimpse at several dangerous new antagonists, the teaser also gives fans their first taste of old!Zuko’s new voice. Sure, he may be portending danger and doom… but it’s Zuko, so we don’t even care that these mysterious new villains apparently want to end the era of the Avatar.

Korra can totally handle that… right?

Another teaser from Nickelodeon features commentary from co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino, who do not answer that question, but do suggest that a new era has dawned indeed. The showrunners discuss the conclusion of Book 2: Spirits, and how Korra’s decision to strengthen the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds will impact The Legend of Korra season 3.

The Legend of Korra: “Creators Discuss Book 3”

“This crazy spirit energy [washed] over the entire globe, and passed through everything – and every person,” Konietzko says. “It remains to be seen what effects that had on people and the world.”

The official synopsis for the season premiere, “A Breath of Fresh Air,” continues in this theme of new beginnings.

After the events of Harmonic Convergence, Avatar Korra discovers that her decision to leave the spirit portals open has unexpected consequences. Wild spirit vines have overgrown Republic City and Airbenders are suddenly popping up across the four nations.

Change indeed.

The Legend of Korra season 3, episode 1, “A Breath of Fresh Air,” will air on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. on Nickelodeon.
