The Legend of Korra season 2 premiered at long last on Friday night, and the Hypable staffers behind SeptBender are here to tell you what we thought of the first two episodes.

Though we recapped the long-awaited premiere episodes of The Legend of Korra season 2 for you last week, Hypable staffers Mitch, Caitlin, and Michal – the team behind SeptBender – are going a little deeper into our reactions to the first two episode.

Our favorite parts:

Mitch: Korra’s fight with the dark spirit in “Rebel Spirit.” The animation in that sequence was more than breathtaking, and seeing her going into the Avatar State somehow excited me more than ever before! Can’t wait to see more of her transformation into a powerful Avatar.

Caitlin: Korra opening the portal and the gorgeous light show that ensued, in “The Southern Lights.” The conceit of Korra not being able to open it until she tapped into her Avatar powers in her desperation was predictable, but the animation was stunning.

Michal: Jinora in “The Southern Lights,” being drawn to the hall of Avatars and connecting – or something! – with an old spirit. I love Jinora, and I’m excited to see where this mysterious plot line takes her.

Our favorite lines:

Michal:

Were there any issues?

Mitch: The premiere had no Lin. What’s up with that?! She’s not only an epic Metalbender, but is also Tenzin’s ex-lover! I was really looking forward to seeing the continuation of their awkward storyline.

Caitlin: Desna and Eska. I hope they do more in the future than just be stereotypical judgmental, monotone characters because they didn’t have much purpose in the first two episodes other than to attract Bolin’s attention — which I didn’t really buy either.

Michal: The spirit portal! I don’t understand what happened there, or why it was such a big deal that Korra open it. The music and staging seemed to tell me that I should be really excited, but instead I was just confused.

Our predictions!

Mitch: I’m hoping that my new favorite ship Bolin/Asami comes true! It’d be really funny to see Mako’s reaction to his brother dating his ex. Plus, they’d be absolutely adorable together!

Caitlin: I think Unalaq was responsible for at least some of the spirit attacks in order to make himself look good in front of Korra to gain her trust. They were very convenient for his purposes.

Michal: I hope we learn more about Kya, Bumi, and Tenzin, and their relationship to Aang. It’s clear that their childhoods weren’t perfect, and I love it when characters share bittersweet memories of the past.
