Nickelodeon shared a small clip from The Legend of Korra season 2 at a recent press event promoting their upcoming animated projects.

At a press event held yesterday, the kids television network Nickelodeon shared news for The Legend of Korra season 2 and several other current and upcoming animated shows. Along with information for Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles and programs in production, the network revealed a short clip from The Legend of Korra season 2.

Nickelodeon did not reveal the air date for the hotly anticipated Legend of Korra season 2 at the event, announcing only that the show would return “later this year.” The freshly debuted scene is the first animation released for The Legend of Korra season 2 since San Diego Comic Con. Unfortunately, the clip is not made available for distribution to the general public.

However, IGN’s representative at the event did share a summary of the sequence shared with the press. The scene involved a battle between Korra and a spirit, “initially just seen as dark tentacles, surrounded by a purple energy.” The creature rises from the ground and attacks Korra and Tenzin as Korra asks the spirit, “Why are you so angry? What have we done to offend you?”

Then, IGN reports, the spirit “begins moving down the hill, utlimately crashing through a fence into a carnival being held.” Korra attacks the octopus-like creature “begins to get the upper hand, but she is suddenly grabbed by one of its tentacles, and smashed down into the ground.”

According to Nickelodeon’s Rich Magallanes, the scene is indicative of the a major plot point of The Legend of Korra season 2: the boundaries of Spirit World are weakening, leading spirits to leave their realm and seep into the human world. (This is not unexpected, as the season will be titled “Book 2: Spirits.”) Along the same lines, an animatic shown at last year’s Comic Con also features Korra involved in a scrap with another creepy spirit. There is no way of knowing whether or not the two fights are directly connected, but you can check out our glimpse at that intense fight scene at 3:33 in the video below:

Nickelodeon noted that the scene previewed for the press was still incomplete, though IGN’s reporter noted how impressive the sequence was. It is heartening to know that, though the wait may be (very) long, it looks like the finished product of The Legend of Korra season 2 will be worth all of our anticipation.
